When I returned to work for Mr. Carr in 2000 after being gone for 15 years, he was still a very intimidating force to me and sometimes I was afraid to ask him questions for fear of looking ridiculous. I remember one day I had to ask him a question about a case he had asked me to work on so I said to him, "Mr. Carr, may I ask you a stupid question?" to which he replied, "Well, let me ask you a question first. Do you already know the answer?" to which I replied, 'No", and he said, "Well, then, it isn't stupid, is it?" I will never forget that moment when Olympus descended to earth. Miss you, Maggie & Marie a lot!

Rex Carr was a long-time friend. I valued his advice I originally baby-sat for his children when they were young (formerly Sommers). I was a friend of Edna and Eric, initially. He will be sadly missed by all. Prayers to the family.

My heartfelt sympathy to the family of Rex Carr - an attorney like no other. His contributions to the communities and persons he served are a part of his legacy of life. He will be sorely missed by those of us who had a chance to interact with him as a compassionate attorney and as a compassionate and caring person. I remember so well his work and presence with Local 1220's East St. Louis Federation of Teachers. I remember so well his work and presence with the NAACP and his generosity to other organizations. Thank you Rex.

May the family and friends be soothed and sustained as they bid farewell to this "Man for all Seasons".

I'm sad to hear about Rex's passing. He has been a great neighbor - so easy going and never a harsh word. Just a friendly wave as he loaded the dogs in his car and took off down the street. My condolences to the Carr family.

My in-laws from E St. Louis knew Rex years ago and sold him solid oak furniture. I had the pleasure of meeting Rex one day at his office back in 1995. He walked in and offered me an apple. He was so exhuberant! Made quite an impression on me.I am delighted to have been able to meet him. Today is a beautiful day to say until you meet again. God be with Rex and his family.

My condolences to the Carr family. Rex helped us with a horrible medical malpractice case in 1983. More than once I saw tears in Rex's eyes when he would see my 40 year old husband and saw what he could no longer do due to doctors' mistakes. He was a brillant lawyer and a wonderful human being. He will, I'm sure, continue fighting for us "little guys".

Sailing is something important I did with Rex. He welcomed me in with such openness, included me when I was a stranger, brought me in to his crew and introduced me to his son and to his friends. Now they are my friends and sailing is something important I will always do with Rex.

Rex was my neighbor for 40 years. I always enjoyed our conversations about his dogs, sailing, traveling and the infamous dioxin trial. I will miss his driving/flying down our hill with the dogs' heads hanging out the window. He was a good man respected by many.

Rex will be missed by many at Lake Carlyle. My Dad and I will always remember competing with Rex on the race course in the S2 7.9 class years ago. When we first started sailing at Lake Carlyle we were in awe of Rex and his light blue boat sailing up and down the lake in all types of weather conditions. As the years past we were always happy to see Rex and his crew sail past us as both crews would exchange pleasantries. Rex you will be missed but not forgotten by this crew and you will always be a part of the lore of Lake Carlyle. Thanks for The Memories Don and Tony Corbett

I want to extend my heart felt sympathy on behalf of all the members of Local 1220 to the Carr family. I did not know him personally but I've always heard great stories about his support of East St. Louis Federation of Teachers Local 1220 from Mr. Joe Lewis. For that I grew to have a lot of respect for Mr. Carr. He was very special to us and good memories of him will always be with us.

My heart is truly saddened by the loss of this tremendous man! I grew up with Eric, Bruce, and the rest of the family. He always made sure we could play in the pool, had plenty to eat and drink, and never had a bad time. To this day when his name comes up it's automatically associated with "Sexy Rexy Carr" the flamboyant and caring man that always had time for others. I am sure that the Lord has made arrangements for Rex to always have wind in his sails! Rest in peace Sir!

It was an incredibly hot day and I was outside looking for something that I couldn't find. Mr. Carr saw me and offered his assistance. He welcomed me into his office and helped me find whatever it was that I was looking for. I can't even remember what it was. What I do remember is what else I found that day; A truly kind and generous man that went completely out of his way to help a total stranger. May his kindness always be remembered. My condolences to his family and friends.

I started my legal career with Rex Carr. He was a brilliant legal analyst, able to identify the central issues in a case almost instantly. He was always for the little person. The world is a better place because Rex was part of it. He stood his ground on principle when others would have backed away. Thank you, Rex, for being you.

Rex Carr is one of my sailing heroes. My respect for Rex stated on a windy spring day. Due to the wind, I was having trouble raising my sails. After a while I decide it was too windy to sail. As I was motoring back to the harbor, I saw Rex and his light blue S-2 sailing from the north end of the lake.
Rex was sailing alone with his motley crew of dogs. He had both sails up and was sailing along briskly. Rex was in his seventies then. I decided if that old man could sail that well in his seventies, he must have been an amazing sailor in his prime. Lake Carlyle will not be the same without Rex Carr on the water.

My Uncle Rex was my favorite. He would bring his sailboat down to Grand Lake of the Cherokees. We would spend the week sailing. I have so many memories of my uncle. I got to see him last September and really enjoyed him. I will really miss him. I truly loved my uncle. He's the last of the 5 Carr brothers.

So sorry for your loss! This is the only time I will ever wish we didn't live in Idaho so that I could come to his funeral. But, my heart and memories of the years I worked for Mr. Carr will be there in spirit. Wonder what kind of law practice he can establish in Heaven with Maggie and Marie? It's smooth sailing from now on, Skipper!
