Robert Feinstein Obituary

Feinstein, Robert

Dr. Robert Feinstein, affectionately known as Dr. Bob, was born in 1940 in Brooklyn, NY. A lifelong scholar, he earned two master's degrees in electrical engineering and a PhD in bioengineering from the University of Michigan. His two daughters Lisa and Ami were born while he was in school in Ann Arbor. In 1972 he moved with his family to Galveston, TX, where he worked as a researcher in biomedical engineering at the University of Texas Medical Branch. At age 38 he entered medical school at Texas A&M University and earned his medical degree there. He completed his residency in anesthesia at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, MO, where he practiced as an anesthesiologist and was a member of the liver transplant team. He continued to enjoy practicing medicine until he retired from his position at St. Luke's Hospital at age 74.

Dr. Bob fell in love with the Pacific Northwest after he and his wife visited friends there. Eventually they bought a condo in Kirkland, WA, where he and Ellen spent their summers until they ultimately retired there. Throughout his life, Dr. Bob enjoyed various hobbies. He got his pilot's license and loved flying his Mooney and attending air shows. He was an avid and skilled photographer who used his collection of Leica cameras and lenses to document his surroundings. He found great satisfaction in volunteering with Interplast and with Medical Missions for Children repairing cleft lips and palates in a number of third-world countries. He and his wife also traveled extensively. A passionate road cyclist for many years, he enjoyed riding his custom bikes in both St. Louis and Seattle.

Dr. Bob loved and will always be loved by his family and many friends. He had an especially soft spot for his beloved dogs Carson, Sonny, and Baylee. Dr. Feinstein is survived by his wife of 57 years Ellen Benton Feinstein, his two daughters Lisa and Ami, his brother Neil, and his fur baby Baylee.

To Ellen and to Bob's family,
I was so sorry to hear of Bob's death. I did not know of the many accomplishments Bob had made, even when he and Ellen were members of our Gourmet group in WCWU. He was always a kind person with so many interesting stories. He will be greatly missed. My deepest condolences to his family.
