Roger Mallette Obituary

Mallette, Roger W. who was the founder of Retro/ Micro Beer Jerseys, LLC of Portland, Oregon, died Sunday, December 2, 2012, from head injuries sustained in a fall. He was 48 years old and resided in Portland, OR. Mr. Mallette was born in Chicago, IL, on September 1, 1964. His family moved to St. Louis in 1969. He attended CBC High School and was a graduate of St. Mary's High School. Mr. Mallette was proud of his service in the US Navy from January 1985 to December 1988, when he received an honorable discharge. Upon returning from the service, he received his undergraduate and master's degrees from Webster University. Mr. Mallette was perhaps most proud of being the founder of Retro/Micro Beer Jerseys which operated from Seattle, Chicago and Portland. Retro/Micro Beer Jerseys, formerly known as Retro Image Apparel, was considered by many in the cycling industry to be among the preeminent cycling jersey designers and producers. Mr. Mallette was an avid cyclist. The company later branched out into the production of microbrewery tee shirts. Retro/Micro Beer Jerseys earned the coveted Cycle Jersey of the Month award in Bicycling Magazine a record 5 times in 2007, 2009 and 2010. The company's product designs have also been featured or received recognition in Fast Company, Boing Boing, Penthouse, Forbes, The Washingtonian, All About Beer, Draft, and Road Bike Action magazines, among several others. Mr. Mallette also was instrumental in establishing a Bikes for Vets program at the VA Medical Center in Walla Walla, WA. Retro donated bicycle locks, helmets and other accessories and solicited the donation of bicycles from several bicycle shops. The bikes are available for the use of veterans receiving inpatient and outpatient services. He was the cherished son of the late Warren D. and Jeroma Mallette. He was the beloved brother of Michele Mallette Sherman (James), Nicole Mallette Giesler (Richard), Jerren Auble and Mark Mallette (Christine). He loved his best canine pal, Ike. He was also the dear uncle, cousin and friend to many. Services: A celebration of Mr. Mallette's life will be held at The Church of St. Michael & St. George at 1 pm, on Saturday, January 12, 2013, in the Great Hall, 6345 Wydown Blvd., Clayton, MO 63105. Roger was the most passionate and stalwart of friends. My life is richer for having met him so many years ago. I will miss him terribly.
I wish the rest of his friends and family the best as we endeavor to go on without our Roger.

My dear, sweet friend. You brought our boy and me together a few years ago, and in so doing, became a wonderful friend to me. Our last conversation was one of mutual support, and I know that you have succeeded once again in reuniting our boy and me. Even in passing, you are still taking care of others. May you always know how much we love you.

one of the many cool jerseys you made.

Roger, I met you many moons ago. and you have always been a gentleman with good taste and a nice sense of humor, a guy who seemed to be from a kinder, better bygone era. I will miss seeing and commenting on your new bike jersey designs. You did great work. I am certain those who were lucky enough to be in your daily life are struggling with the huge void left by your absence. Peace be with you kind sir and comfort to your family and loved ones.

I just learned of Roger's passing this morning. I can't begin to tell you how sorry I am. The last time I saw him, he was just a little boy in Buffalo Grove, IL. following Nicole and I. You know, like little brothers will. I will pray for peace in your hearts and always know how blessed you are to have had him in your lives. Love you always.

Thanks for the gear buddy
