It is with profound sadness that I offer my sympathies to all of Shirley's family. Over 20 years ago, Shirley and Gene took me in and treated me as one of their own, an act for which I will forever be grateful. Shirley was one of the most loving people I have ever met. And after all these years with all the different jobs I've held, she is still the best boss for which I've ever had the pleasure to work.
To the family, I'm sorry I heard of her death too late to offer my condolences in person, but know that I also feel the sorrow of Shirley's passing. She will be missed by many. Shirley and Gene built a strong family and I know you will all stregthen each other through these darkened days. You are all in my thoughts.

Laura, Kim, Lisa, Hal, Doug, Steve and all of your loved ones:
Words can not express enough how much we will miss 'Momma Scharf". She took us in and treated us like family right from the start. We will miss her very much and pray for you all during this loss of such a wonderful mom. I'll always remember her at your kitchen(Laura) peeling potatoes and onions. She was a awesome woman with such a big heart and we were so blessed to have been a part of her life and to such a wonderful, loving family as all of you. May God stregthen you, help you, comfort you, and love you through all of your times of need and days to come. We love you all very much!! In Christ name, Michelle, Ron, Jordan & Chance

To all the children, grandchildren and relatives of Shirley, my deepest sympathy. Shirley and the Scharf family were great neighbors for many years. I missed her when she moved away and I shall miss her now that she is gone. She left a large family and many friends behind as evidence of her presence here on earth. She will be missed by many.

On behalf of the Gibson Family, my deepest sympathy goes out to Hal, Steve, Kim, Doug, Laura and Lisa. On Estes Drive, Shirley was our mother, too -- as were the two Bettys and Lois. Because you know, you couldn't get away with anything as our moms were watching all of us, all the time. And now they're all gone. I imagine them in heaven laughing and having a grand old time, and watching over us all once again.

Dear Hal, Kim, John, Lisa and the entire Scharf Family,
When Tami and I first moved to St. Louis with baby in tow over 20 years ago, we didn't know anyone in the area. Shirley and the rest of you welcomed us and treated us like family. I soon learned that family and sharing hospitality with others was what Shirley was all about.
My deepest sympathies go out to you and your family. Yet I can't help but smile when I think of Shirley and the truly amazing legacy she has left behind with all of you. I know she was very, very proud of her family and the good work you do -- there was never a time when I met with her that she didn't mention it.

I enjoyed working with Shirley all those years at Red Roof Inns. She always made me smile when I heard her voice on the phone. The memory of her will last forever. She touched my heart. May your memory of her bring you comfort and even make you smile. She is in Heaven.

I am so saddened to hear of Shirley's passing. What a classy, caring person. I was in St. Louis a few weeks back on business, drove by the Florrisant Red roof Inn, and my first thought was of her. She and her entire family are the kind of people this world needs more of. My thoughts and prayers are with her and her family.

I knew Shirley from my years with the RRI corporate office. She was a wonderful lady and always a pleasure to work with. I remember Shirley always watching out after her employees and treating them as her extended family.
You are in my thoughts and I hope you are able to find comfort in your memories of Shirley.

Shirley was a important member of the Red Roof family for many years and always knew how to make her guests, employees, and coworkers feel like they were part of her family. Although I have not seen Shirley for many years, I have thought about her and hope that her family knows she left an impression on many of us.

God will welcome her home with open arms, just like she did with so many people. Shirley was amazing, strong yet gentle, smart yet humble. She was funny and loved to laugh. But most of all she loved her family and that is where her real joy was. And they all loved her back. I loved her too and have thought of her too many times to count. She has inspired me throughout my life and I have talked of her often. It is so hard to lose a mother but as time goes on you will see her in so many things and hear her when least expected. All these times will bring you comfort and peace.
