Timothy Mize Obituary

Mize, Timothy Sean passed away very suddenly on the 18th of August, at the age of 45. He was born and raised in St. Louis and played in the local band Laffinstock. He spent 19 years as a volunteer and DJ at KDHX as a host of the Super Fun Happy Hour. He was an integral part of the St. Louis Punk Rock Scene in the 80's and 90's. In his earliest years, he was an altar boy at St. George. In later years, he was a bartender at HiPointe and the Way Out Club, and befriended hundreds of patrons. More recently, he was employed at the Botanical Garden Little Shop, where he loved working with the volunteers. In his life, he was known and loved by all types of people from all walks of life and he considered them all his friends. He continued to give to others, even after death. Through Organ Donation, he was able to save the lives of four other people this week. He shared his life for the last twelve years with Jennifer Kuykendall-Mize. He adored her and their three dogs, Bella, Chupacabra, and Jack. He was preceded in death by his mother Sondra Mize. He is survived by his grandmother GiGi and his aunt Donna Laudicina. Services: A Memorial Mass will be held at St. George Catholic Church on September 29th at 4:00pm. As he was a lover of dogs and music, the family asks in lieu of flowers, donations be made to KDHX Radio or to St. Louis Stray Rescue, two local organizations that benefit the community.

Tim, you were an amazing soul that I did not get to see enough, but when I did I always looked forward to it. I always looked up to you and thought of you as one of the coolest people I know and am very proud to have called you friend. You were always kind to me and encouraged me in my endeavors. To me Tim had a Punk Rock out look and lifestyle in the way that he lived his life his way.......to me that was more than Punk Rock music, more than the collections of cool posters at his and Jen's house, more than all of the odds and ends and way deeper than the tattoo's...it went to a matter of fact voice that could make you excited, make you laugh, make you feel that you had a friend in Tim...He was an original and never a follower. He was a very Giving man....he was THE MAN and I will miss him!

I've been thinking about you all summer. I hoped to run into you somewhere along the way...it never happened. You always put a smile on my face as yours was infectious. You made an impession on my heart and I will never forget you.

I have known Tim for over six years, as co-workers and colleagues of the Missouri Botanical Garden. Although a relatively short period of time, I felt as if I've known him all my life, and he always treated me the same way. When Tim became your friend, he remained your friend, even though there might be weeks or months between communications with one another. It's difficult to say good-bye, amigo, but rest peacefully, buddy. Good night to a sweet soul.

I first met Tim at the Rocket Bar in 1994 though our mutual friend Eric Gibbs. We shared a few drinks and about 10 minutes into our first meeting Tim said to me, "I feel like I've known you my whole life!" That captures well what Tim was able to do every time we saw one another, made me feel like I was special. I get the feeling that Tim did this for everyone he met. What an amazing gift, what a fun life! Rest in peace, good man.

Tim, I will never forget you or your infectious smile. You will be deeply missed. I always say that the dash in-between the date of birth and the date of death is the most important part because it is the life you so very much lived. And you most certainly lived!!!..Keep Rockin my friend.
