William Manser Obituary

Manser, William (Billy) C. On Monday, May 25th, 2015, at the age of 69. We mourn the loss of William Billy Manser, son of the late David and Greta Manser, brother of David Manser (deceased), Ann Manser (deceased), Gem Gift, Nancy Manser, and Jim (the late Janet) Manser, dear uncle, cousin, neighbor and friend. Billy honored his country by volunteering to serve in the United States Marine Corps (Semper Fi!) during the Vietnam war, and was stationed in Vietnam from June 1968 through May 1969. He began his professional career in the steel business and worked as a sales representative for two steel distributors prior to cofounding Pittsburgh Pipe & Supply Corp. in 1977. At Pittsburgh Pipe, he distinguished himself as one of his company's top salesmen and purchasing agents, while simultaneously serving as Pittsburgh Pipe's Vice President. He retained his positions at the company for 34 years, and retired only due to declining health. He served for over 20 years as a board member of the Kilo Diabetes & Vascular Research Foundation, and volunteered for many years at their fundraising events. He especially enjoyed presenting winners' ribbons to competitors at the Saint Louis National Charity Horse Show, an annual event whose proceeds were donated to the Kilo Foundation. He loved Harley-Davidson motorcycles and made many annual pilgrimages to Sturgis, SD, with his Harley riding Horton Watkins High School friends, several of whom played football with him on the 1964 Ladue High championship football team. He was honored to serve as President of the St. Louis Chapter of Bikers for Babies. In his later years, he reserved special affection for Armani, his beloved Yorkshire Terrier. He was sometimes a challenge but more often a joy, and he will be missed by the many people whose lives he touched. Billy! Billy! Billy! Lookin' mighty fine! Services: Visitation at Bopp Chapel, 10610 Manchester Rd, Kirkwood, MO, 63122, Thursday, May 28th, 4-7 pm (a reflection on Bill's life at 6:30 pm). Reception immediately following the visitation at the Frontenac Hilton at Clayton Rd. & Lindbergh Blvd. Interment on Friday, May 29th, at 9:30 am at Oak Hill Cemetery 10305 Big Bend Rd., Kirkwood, MO, 63122.

I've had the pleasure of knowing Billy for the last 15 years through our business relationship. Billy and I spent a lot of hours on the phone over the years talking cars, motorcycles and guns and how much he tortured Patricia at work. I had learned of Billy's declining health a few years ago and called him every couple months and would ask if I could help he or his sisters out in anyway and that I would be more than glad to take care of the heavy work around the house since he was no longer able to and all he had to do was call. I would tell him that I wanted to come pick him up and get him out of the house we'd go for a drive, grab lunch whatever just let me know I'd love to see you. I will Kev I will thanks for calling and sorry I haven't called he'd say.. No biggie Billy just let me know when your ready and I'll be there.. He was such a proud person he never called.. I loved business calls with him, he'd answer the phone and talk to me for a few minutes and then he'd say who dis? I'd laugh and say Kevin, Hey Kev its good to hear from you, I'd tell him what I was looking for and he'd repeat it as he wrote it down and then say your phone number is 314-220-34?? and he'd mess it up, the next time he'd get the other part right and would always say I almost had it... I loved his wit, charm and personality. He was truly an original I'll miss you buddy and I'm sure sorry you never let me take you out to lunch.. Maybe you can set up the welcoming committee party for when its my turn to leave this world.. I know it'll be a good one.. So long Billy, Billy, Billy you deserve the rest my friend.
