There will be a gathering of St Louis friends and family November 3 at 3:00 in his shop at 9071 Windom. His shop is a great reflection of his creativity and craftsmanship and how he recyled before most of us even knew the word. At his request, his ashes will be buried in a small garden in our backyard behind his shop.

Our thoughts are of Francie and her grandson Aidan who made Zach's life so wonderful the last seven years. They met in Marathon where Zach had his ranch and donkeys, and Francie had a small vacation home. Zach moved to St. Louis to be with Francie and Aidan. Aidan is going to kindergarten this year and doesn't understand why Zach can't come back, this wonderful person who has spent so much time with him, making him drawings of airplanes and dinosaurs, enjoying and encouraging Aidan and his drawings, how to hammer, use a drill and built him his own tool bench. Aidan helped him feed the donkeys. Zach read Aidan old German folk tales and Edwin Gorey picture books and had him listening to scat on the computer and taught him hand jive! My heart goes out to Aidan who is too young to understand that Zach can't come back but will always be watching over him. Bless you, Aidan.
Our hearts go out to Francie, who helped Zach through his final days and was with him when he passed. We send love and strength to help you through this most difficult time.
Thank you Zach for making my life richer. I have admired you all these years. So glad that you had such a loving relationship with your brother, Timm, my husband.
I hope you are riding motorcycles with the best heaven has to offer!

We spent a lot of years together, old friend. You are well remembered on the West Bank in Minneapolis, as well as West Texas. We have a wonderful daughter, Maya and fine grandson, Ian and a legacy of pushing back against the military-industrial complex. An anarchist guru, brilliant lover of art of all kinds, mechanic, luthier, librarian, and artist; we put 1000's of miles on the Triumph and sidecar. Wish we could have made on more trip. This wasn't our first trip together and it won't be our last, see you next time. CZ

Amber, I guess it is you who I need to thank for the photos of Piper and Sheba. I took care of them and their buddies a lot, so you can imagine how it affected me seeing them again---and in (virtual) action. When they were transferred to your territory and you, Zach sent me a link to show me what those races are like. So good to know they're having fun. Muchas Gracias! Klem

Grateful to have known you, Zacko. Knowing you made my life bigger, and stranger, and sillier.
See you next time.

Dear Zach, we go so far back I can hardly remember but you were just a kid when I came to MN in 1966 and met you... lots of Magical Mystery Tours forever, meet again next life. Love, Nancye

I'm so grateful to you, Zach, for leaving your mark on West Texas. Knowing you and your family of donkeys is a huge blessing in my life. Right now, the thrill you're experiencing hearing again beloved Lightning's beautiful screech and patting his withers again every day is a comforting thought. The remarkable dollhouse barn you carpentered for your herd---way before you ever started building your own home---stands as a monument on that wave of rock that will always be your territory, the site where you demonstrated your caring for burros and wayfarers. Zach, muchas gracias. Klem

We just got the message Zach sent us on the 20th & sorry we missed being able to message him back. He thanked us for taking care of Sheba & Piper the last three years and giving them productive lives in Colorado doing Pack Burro Racing... we love them so much & they ran the last race of our 2019 season the day Zach passed away & they raced well...
