Alice Johansen Obituary
Alice was born Jan. 2, 1933, in Constantine, a daughter of A. Albert and Ethel (Showalter) Stahly. She graduated from Constantine High School in 1950.
On June 2, 1951, she married Arthur Johansen in Angola, Ind. He preceded her in death Jan. 11, 2008.
Alice worked for Kirsch Company in Sturgis for many years, retiring as an inspector. Alice and Art also operated the wrecker service in Constantine. She was a devoted member of Trinity Missionary Church. Alice was also a member of St. Joseph Valley Old Engine Club, Meek's Mill Garden Club and The Campground Gang. She loved to teach crochet in 4-H, camping, mushroom-hunting and playing cards with the Widows group. Along with her husband, she managed Mottville Speedway, where she raced the Powder Puff circuit in the 1960s, and then again in 1985.
Surviving are her children Jodi Johansen of Constantine, Kurt (Mary) Johansen of Sturgis, and Lon (Suzanne) Johansen of Constantine; grandchildren Alicia Johansen, Josh (Hillary) Johansen, Clifton (Jenny) Johansen, Brian Johansen, and Jeffrey (Stacy) Johansen; several great-grandchildren; a brother, Arvid Stahly; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and siblings Bonnie Aurand and Dallas Stahly.
According to her wishes, cremation has taken place. Relatives and friends will be received 10-11 a.m. March 27, 2021, at Trinity Missionary Church, with a memorial service to begin at 11 a.m. Pastor Terry Neumayer will officiate. Memorial contributions may be given to Trinity Missionary Church.

Only now do I learn that my beloved "host mom" Alice passed away in march, over half a year ago. It makes me sad, but I have so many fond memories of her. She was one of the most loving and fun persons I know, and even though my year with her and her family as an exchange student dates back to 1976-77, I have not forgotten her a single day. Thank you Alice and family, for your generosity which made that year in Constantine (Michigan) one of the happiest years of a then teenager from Konstanz (Germany). Alice, the dear wife of my cousin Art, is outstanding for her kindness, warmth and love. No better time to go to heaven then Eastertime which is when Jesus first returned to the Father. Alice embodies the Christian witness of the holy women in this poem: "I have seen Mary at the cross and Mary at the tomb and Mary weeping as she spread her hair in a leper's room. But it was not in Bethany or groping up Calvary's hill I learned how women break their hearts to ease another's ill. I will always remember the fun times that Mom & Dad shared with Alice & Art. I'm sure that they have all reunited in heaven with many smiles and hugs. Love to all of you.
