Edward J. Dunlap

1932 - 2015

Edward J. Dunlap, age 82, of Centreville, and formerly of Nottawa, passed away Monday, Sept. 21, 2015, at Fairview Nursing and Rehabilitation in Centreville.
He was born Nov. 2, 1932, in Ottawa, Ohio, a son of the late Dale J. and Hazel (Mason) Perdue.
Edward moved to Sturgis at the age of 17 and worked with a construction crew that built Trinity Lutheran Church. Most of his adult life he lived in the Burr Oak and Nottawa area and had been employed as a police officer in Burr Oak for a short time, then worked at Tube Fabricators, Formed Tubes, and he retired from Telemark Corporation in Sturgis.
He first married Emmy Ellen Wheeler, and this marriage ended in divorce. On June 30, 1962, he married Beverly Raifsnider in Centreville. She preceded him in death Jan. 30, 2010.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of the American Legion, the V.F.W., the Eagles lodge and the Moose.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing euchre, throwing horseshoes and playing guitar and singing.
Surviving are two sons, Gary (Janell) Dunlap and Brett (Tammy) Dunlap, both of Sturgis; two daughters, Debbie Dunlap of Sturgis and Patti Dunlap of Nottawa; 11 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; a brother, James (Judy) Dunlap; four sisters, Ruby (Ted) Reagle, Cathy (Robert) Daneer, Zelma (William) Blakely and Thelma (Elroy) Stecher; stepchildren Richard (Shirley) Metzger, Kathy (Phil) Winklepleck and Sheila (Ed) Vanek; and several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Beverly; and three sisters, Esta, Edna and Helen.
The family will receive friends and relatives from
2-4 p.m. Friday at the Rosenberg Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 807 E. Chicago Road, Sturgis.
Services celebrating the life of Edward J. Dunlap will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, immediately following visitation, at the funeral home, with Pastor Russ Stauffer, officiating.
Interment will be held at a later date at White Pigeon Cemetery. Memorial donations may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association, Dementia Foundation or Fairview Nursing and Rehabilitation Community for Activities. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
