Henrietta Hamminga

1937 - 2017

Henrietta Hamminga, age 80, of Mendon, passed away Wednesday, May 31, 2017, surrounded by her loving daughters.
She was born March 26, 1937, in Cook County, Ill., a daughter of Garmt and Henrietta (Vienstra) Hamminga. She graduated from Mendon High School with the class of 1954. Henrietta worked at Upjohn Company in Kalamazoo and Haas Corporation in Mendon. She also worked with her daughter at Blue Bird Restaurant in Mendon, where she was known as the Pie Queen.
Henrietta is survived by four daughters, Judy Umlor of Grayling, Mary Lou Cook-Spalinger (Dave) of Mendon, Cindy Lee Cook-Shaw (Kevin) of Mendon and Lori Cook of Traverse City; nine grandchildren, Wes, Jebidiah, Clayton (Susan), Delia, Annalee, Jacob, Savannah, Starla and Caleb; five great-grandchildren, Dakota, Kira, Elijah, Leah and Linley; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Henry, Frank, Gerrit, Cornelius and Clarence Hamminga; and four sisters, Jane Hamminga, Imogene Merchant, Beatrice Cook and Jantina Albright.
In keeping with her wishes, cremation has been conducted. A private family memorial service will take place at a later date.
