Jean Kirby Obituary
Preceded in death by her mother, Ann L. Palmer, and her father, Clarence T. Sandberg.
Survived by her husband of 64 years, Richard (Dick); children Scott (Mary), Kimberly (Steve Belzer) and Steven (Carolyn). She also is survived by four grandchildren, Todd, Mitchell, Jane and Kory.
Jean was born May 10, 1928, in South Bend, Ind., and graduated from Sturgis High School in Sturgis in 1946. She attended Michigan State University, where she studied fashion merchandising. Jean loved music and singing. She played oboe in college and sang throughout her lifetime in several church and community choirs. She was a talented tennis player, enjoyed golf and loved her retirement years at the cabin in Northwestern Wisconsin and Naples, Fla.
Gardening and flowers gave her joy and she loved red tulips, roses and geraniums most of all. Jean enthusiastically supported all her children and grandchildren with fond memories of her home in Bloomington, Minn., where she was actively involved in her church and community. Jean had a special talent for making friends. She and Dick especially loved getting together with lifelong childhood friends from Sturgis, Bloomington and their retirement community at Boutwells Landing.
She will be missed for her laughter, her support and the joy she brought to everyone. She was a beautiful person. Our family cannot put into words the support and kindness that the Croixdale, Boutwell TCU and Long Term Care teams gave our mom. Thank you for your loving care.
Services are at 11:30 a.m. Monday, June 26, 2017, at Bradshaw Celebration of Life Center, 2800 Curve Crest Boulevard, Stillwater, Minn., with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. Interment is 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 28, 2017, at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis.
Memorials preferred to Medalist Fine Arts Association, Bloomington Center for the Arts, 1800 West Old Shakopee Road, Bloomington, MN 55431; or Presbyterian Homes Foundation, attn: Boutwells Music Department, 2845 Hamline Ave. N,. Roseville, MN 55113.

Dear Dick, Scott, Steve and Kim,
I am so sorry to hear about Jean's death. My memories are many, mostly that she had such a positivity about her, not only did her smile spread happiness, she was someone who could easily be in the moment with whom ever she was around. She introduced me in Fort Wayne Indiana to her famous (to me) macaroni and cheese!! I had never had real cheese only Velveta which my mother Donna used! To this day, I make mac & cheese like Jean Kirby. Dick, Dad always told us that you were his brother which Marthe, Carol, Joel and I hold dear to our hearts. So very, very sorry to learn of Jean's passing. Mort and I spent many wonderful times with the Kirby family and I have many, many memories.
My condolences to Dick and the Kirby family. Jean will be much missed.
