John Sterner Jr. Obituary

Pastor John M. Sterner Jr. passed away Jan. 28, 2018.
He was born Nov. 5, 1942, a son of Ruth and John Monroe Sterner.
The husband of Peggy Ann Sterner, John grew up in First Presbyterian Church of Flint. He and his siblings sang in the church choir. In his early 20s, he made a decision to actively follow God's lead and was ordained in Assemblies of?God Church.
He began as a youth pastor in Flint and served the congregations of several churches over the years. His ministries include Teen Challenge, Prison Ministry, Genesis Project, Fifth Sunday Fellowship, Theology of Tap and The Burr Oak Contata.
He joyfully served as pastor at Colon and Burr Oak United Methodist Churches for five years.
Surviving are his siblings, Mary Sterner Dougherty, James Sterner and David Sterner; children Jeanne Sterner, Joy Sterner Hevron, Matthew Sterner, Steven Andrews,?Julie Andrews Jones, Miles Wallace, Eric Wallace and Michael Wallace; 17 grandchildren; and many loved nieces, nephews, friends and colleagues. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Sterner; and a brother, Marker Sterner.
