Susan Shulze Obituary

Susan Marie Shulze, also known as Sue, transitioned to glory on August 17, 2023, at age 81, in Thousand Oaks, California. She passed away following complications of a recent illness with her loving husband Bob at her side.

Born to Jim and Eleanor Benson on December 11, 1941, in Sauk Centre, Minnesota, Sue was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, and aunt who touched the lives of many through her dedication, positivity, and selflessness. She was a true angel on earth and among the kindest people anyone would meet.

Two memorial services will be held to celebrate Sue's remarkable life. The first service will occur on September 9, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. in the Balboa Room at University Village in Thousand Oaks. The second service will be held on September 16th at 11:00 a.m. at Meetinghouse Church (formerly Colonial Church) in Edina, Minnesota. A reception and lunch will follow. Instead of flowers, contributions can be made to the Sarah Shulze Foundation (www.sarahshulzefoundation.org), World Vision, or a community-supporting charity of one's choice.

Jim and Susan Eaton

Sue, as described, was a very special and long time friend. Susan and I (Jim and Susan Eaton) have know Sue and Bob for almost 40 years. We worked closely with them in conjunction with many of their volunteer outreach efforts including Families Moving Foward, and other efforts that involved humanitarian aid and disaster relief. She and Bob set the bar high in demonstrating their compassion and help for a number of marginalized communities. We will remember and miss her very much.

I wish Sue's family the smiles and warmth she gave so many of us. Sue was my mentor in 1975 when I started working with Edina High School's ESL program. I couldn't have had a more knowledgeable teacher. She helped me set up the curriculum, buy the texts, and make the families feel welcome in their new homes. I will forever be grateful. Bob, Scott, and Mary, I send my condolences for your loss. Sue is irreplaceable, but I wish you peace in the days ahead. Warmly, Sue Cole

To Bob, Mary, Scott and your families. Sue and I first met in 1959 at Macalester College, became roommates and forever friends. We shared our lives, and have great memories of summers in Sauk Center, great conversations. We were in each other´s weddings and kept in touch all these many years. Love to you Bob, I´ll miss her too.

One of the finest people I have ever met. I am undoubtedly a better person for having known Sue and Bob. A wonderful duo. She was a magnificently humble package and her kind, generous and gentle spirit will always be remembered. So will her wonderful laugh. I can hear it in my mind now. Shulzes - you are all amazing people. Love you all.
