Ed started teaching at Central in September 1964 and retired after 28 years in 1992. Among the many business courses he taught were shorthand, typing, business math, business law, accounting, and sales and marketing. Computers were introduced in 1986 and changed the whole business curriculum.

He was also director of public relations for the school district and was an advisor to the school newspaper, The Smoke Signal. Additionally, he was an advisor to the Future Teachers of America club, which was designed to encourage students to consider teaching as a career. His main hobby was photography, and he started a wedding photography business in 1969 and continued until 2006, well past his 1992 retirement from teaching. His wife, Marlys, was instrumental in adding senior portraiture to the business.

Ed and his wife, Marlys, were world travelers and visited many countries, especially when they were both retired. Born in Minneapolis, MN, on August 24, 1930, Ed graduated from Edison High School, the Minnesota School of Business, and then the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor of Science in Business Education.

He was especially proud of his tour in the U.S. Marine Corps (1950 to 1954, Korean War), having served as a court-martial reporter using Gregg Shorthand, which he learned at the Minnesota School of Business. Among his memberships was the Hazeltine National Golf Club, where he was at one time the club's official photographer.

Ed is preceded in death by his parents and siblings, his loving wife Marlys in October 2011, and their infant son Davis Leland in May 1959.

He is survived by daughters Sharon (Bill) Murphy of Plymouth, MN, Shelley (Craig) Huddle of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and Ann Ozga of Bloomington, MN. Grandchildren include Michael (Sally) Murphy of Plymouth, MN, Laura (Zack) Seramur of Las Vegas, NV, Britta (Jonathan) Holloway of Salisbury, MD, and Daniel Huddle of Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Great-grandchildren include Elle Murphy and James Murphy. He is also survived by other relatives and friends.
