Maynard Edwin Rolf was born March 31, 1936 in Hancock Township of Carver County. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Benton Township of Carver County. Maynard attended the Zion Lutheran School and graduated in 1954 from the Central High School.
On April 19, 1958, Maynard enlisted in the United States Army where he served active duty until October of 1958 when he was transferred to an Army Reserve obligation. On October 24, 1959, Maynard was united in marriage with Barbara Siewert at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Hamburg. The couple made their home on the family farm in Hancock Township. In October of 1961, Maynard was called again to active duty with the Army. He served until receiving his Honorable Discharge and terminal date of Reserve obligation in the beginning of 1964.
Maynard and Barb raised their family on dairy farms in Carver and McLeod County. Life for Maynard was always centered around farming. He had milked cows, raised beef cattle, worked on the side at a veterinary clinic in Waconia and as a artificial insemination technician. When Maynard was in his early 50's, the couple moved to a home in Glencoe and Maynard began a career as a sale representative of Form-A-Feed. He truly loved working in agriculture and the friendships he gained with all of his customers. Maynard retired from working when he was reached the age of 78, but never retired from his love of farming. Shortly after, Maynard and Barb followed their dream of having a home on a lake near Pelican Rapids. They enjoyed hosting family and friends for fishing and fish fry's for 19 years.
Maynard enjoyed baseball, football, bowling and playing cards; especially Sheepshead and Pinochle. Often, Maynard could be found on shore or in a boat with a fishing rod in his hand.
