Darryl Wayne Norby, 88, passed away peacefully on December 26, 2024 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Darryl was born on January 4, 1936 in Bagley, Minnesota. He was the tenth of 12 siblings and enjoyed farm life. He graduated from Bagley High School, had a short stint at the University of Minnesota-Duluth and then enlisted in the army. After the army, he went to and graduated from the University of Minnesota.
Darryl met his future wife, Patricia LaVine, in 1961 on a blind date with two other of their longtime friends. They married on September 7, 1963 in Minneapolis, Minnesota and had many years of marriage together. During that time they were blessed with three children and multiple grandchildren. In 2021, they excitedly welcomed their first great-grandchild.
Darryl worked for several years at General Mills as an accountant in the protein division. When he left there, he opened his own business, Norby Tax and Accounting. Darryl was also a longtime member of the Spirit of Hope Methodist Church in Golden Valley, Minnesota.
Darryl loved his family. They had many wonderful family vacations to both Canada and Florida. He was known for his quick and witty sense of humor and Darryl loved nature and being in his garden. He was very handy at house remodeling and he could fix just about anything on a car. Darryl loved Gopher sports as well as the Minnesota Vikings. He loved his puppies through the years, and despite his rough exterior, was really a big softie.
Later in life, Darryl and Pat sold their family home in Minnesota and moved to Florida full time. They spent their retirement years in Lighthouse Point enjoying visits from family, relaxing and attending the "Pink Church," First Presbyterian of Pompano Beach.
Darryl is preceded in death by both parents, Pedar and Ruth Norby; multiple siblings and granddaughter Marissa Norby.
He leaves behind his spouse of 61 years whom he endearingly called "wife," Patricia Norby; brother Winston (Karen); daughters Shelly Liljequist (Eric), Stacy Porter (Denny) and son Erick (Erin Frank); sister and brother-in-law Pamella and Dwight Charles; grandchildren Jack Porter, Jake Liljequist, Reese Norby, Wyatt Porter, Ethan Frank, Gabe Frank; great-granddaughter Hazel Porter and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service was held on Thursday, January 9, 2025 at 10:00 at the First Presbyterian Church of Pompano Beach, The Pink Church, 2331 NE 26th Ave., Pompano Beach, FL 33062.
Darryl will be greatly missed by his family and friends and a burial service will be held at a later date at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
It can be a great comfort to a grieving person or family to hear that others thought highly of their loved one, too. If you knew and admired Darryl, be sure to let the family know by writing a few words in the "Memory" section of his obituary on the Kraeer - Fairchild Funeral Home website,
