Susan Ward

1961 - 2025

Susan (Hultgren) Ward, 63, of Vadnais Heights, Minnesota, passed away on July 21, 2025, at St. John's Hospital in Maplewood, Minnesota.

Born on September 12, 1961, in Wausau, Wisconsin, to Marilyn Hultgren and the late James Hultgren, Susan was a radiant spirit whose creativity and compassion enriched many lives.

She is survived by her cherished daughter Melissa Ward, granddaughter Ariel, mother Marilyn, four siblings, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Her husband, Jim Ward, predeceased her in 2015.

A 1980 graduate of Minnetonka High School, Susan met Jim, her lifelong partner, whom she married in 1988. Settling in Deephaven, Minnesota, they welcomed Melissa in 1995. They nurtured young lives through their Happy Tikes daycare. Susan's artistry flourished at craft fairs, where her handcrafted jewelry and beaded displays captivated many. She worked for her sister at Love From USA company and baked beautiful cakes for friends and family, showcasing her culinary artistry. Her beaded displays and candy mannequins, featured in local news, brought joy to her sister's Chicago business and local Minnesota communities. A devoted child caregiver and Girl Scout troop leader, Susan volunteered as a nurse's aide in elderly centers and at school and community events. Her creative dishes, wonderful baked goods, and intricately crafted cakes were eagerly anticipated at gatherings, especially during holidays, which were her greatest joy to prepare for those she loved. Having grown up in her early years with her family in Maryland, Delaware, and a house on stilts on the shores of Connecticut, Sue adored and longed for the east coast ocean and beaches, and all Minnesota lake activities. Sue's hearty and infectious laugh and loving heart will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

A memorial service is scheduled for September 28, 2025, at Minnetonka United Methodist Church, 17611 Lake Street Extension, Minnetonka, with visitation from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., followed by a service at 2:00 p.m., and a Celebration of Life from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Macaluso's, 3857 Labore Road, Vadnais Heights.
