Ann Lowentritt Weiss Cotten, 73, passed away on December 20, 2006 after a long battle with emphysema.
Ann was a longtime member of Haddasah, Gates of Prayer Synagogue, and Gates of Prayer Sisterhood. She retired from Grace King High School after 20 years of teaching free enterprise and civics. The state of Louisiana honored her for creating a free enterprise curriculum that gave her students hands-on experience in creating a business. Ann graduated from the University of Minnesota and attended Newcomb College. She was a member of AEPhi Sorority. She was also a Girl Scout leader and English tutor for Russian immigrants.
She was born in Monroe, LA, grew up in Winnsboro, LA, and was a New Orleans resident for 38 years. She was a devoted wife and grandmother.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Hilton I. Cotten; brother, Louis Levy Lowentritt, Jr.; father, Louis Levy Lowentritt Sr.; mother, Ray Kahn Lowentritt; and stepmother, Dorothy Phillips Lowentritt.
She is survived by her son, Louis Richard Weiss and his wife, Rozita, and their children, Shlomo Levi Weiss, Yosef Chiam Weiss, Miriam Weiss, Avigail Weiss, and Benyamin Weiss; her daughter, Rayanne Marcia Weiss and her husband, James Ivan McIntyre; and brother, Phillips Lowentritt.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to either Jewish Family Services, Gates of Prayer Synagogue, or the Building Fund for Beth Israel Congregation of Biloxi.
Graveside services will be held at noon on Dec. 22, 2006 at Hebrew Rest Cemetery # 2.

I wanted to say how sorry I am to hear of the loss of Ann. I didn't know her that well but she was always very kind to me. She was a great women that did a lot for a lot of people. Know that we will be thingking and praying for you all during this tough time.

Ms. Ann was a great blessing to me on many occasions of visiting with her at Woldenberg. I always looked forward to our visits. My prayers for all of you, I am sure she will be missed as she loved her family so much.
