Anthony Gagliano Obituary
Tony was born on June 28, 1955, at Luke AFB in Arizona. He was a graduate of Ocean Springs High School Class of 1973 and was a 12-year student of the Ocean Springs School System. He played trumpet in the school band and played for the Ocean Springs High School football team, enjoying an undefeated season and the conference championship his senior year.
He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Tammy K. Gagliano, two daughters, Laci M. Gagliano of Mobile, Al., and Lindsey M. Gagliano of Ocean Springs, Ms., his parents, Anthony J. Gagliano, Sr. and Shirley M. Gagliano, his sister, Sandra E. Gagliano, all of Ocean Springs, Ms., his brother and sister-in-law John G. and Beth A. Gagliano of Gulfport, Ms. and several nieces and nephews.
He loved to play the guitar, was a self-taught guitarist, and played lead guitar in several local bands, even going on the road with a band playing gigs around the country.
Tony worked at Ingalls Shipbuilding for several years as an electrician, and then went on to be a boom operator and navigator on a Seismograph Ship in the Bering Sea of Alaska and off the coast of California. He worked as an Electronics Technician and Electrician for construction of the Navy "Landing Craft Air Cushion" (LCAC) and was also the LCAC Navigator for Sea Trials. He then went back to school in the year 2000 and received a bachelor's degree in computer science from the University of Southern Mississippi (USM). After Hurricane Katrina, Tony worked as the construction superintendent of Camp Victor in Ocean Springs restoring hundreds of homes that had been badly damaged by the storm. There is still a mural of Tony on the front wall of Camp Victor showing Tony playing a Guitar. In 2008 he became a Building Code Enforcement Officer for the City of Ocean Springs.
He was an all-around Renaissance man, founder of "Iron Head Productions", building and repairing computers, designing web pages, shooting and editing various local film projects, photography, cartooning, construction projects, home improvements, carpentry, and running a small beef jerky business with customers all over the world. His talents were endless.
There was rarely a moment when he was short of a witty comeback or wisecrack, and he truly upheld his philosophy that life is not to be taken seriously. He was a creator, a builder, a comedian, a caring soul, a husband, father, brother, son, and faithful friend. Never hesitating to put others before himself; he was a rock upon which his loved ones leaned; a foundation for family and friends alike. Most importantly, his presence is still strong and ever present; never subject to erosion; one which will be felt by all those that he loved or impacted forever.
The family wishes to thank all of Tony's friends and classmates. We will be forever grateful for your outpouring of love and support.
Visitation will be at Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home in Ocean Springs on Friday November 20, 2009 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
Family and friends will meet at Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home in Ocean Springs on Saturday, November 21, 2009, at 1:30 p.m. for a funeral procession "around the beach" to Christus Victor Lutheran Church for a service at 2:00 p.m. by Pastor Terri Stagner-Collier. A private service for interment will be held at a later date. Who'll carry the mail?

It was a blessing to run into Tony last year (after 30 years or so!) -- in spite of his illness, he was still filled with life, hope, and a beautiful smile. We wonder why these things happen to God's special children, and then we learn that it was "to show the rest of us how." My prayers are with his loving wife, precious daughters, parents, and siblings during this time of grief. I trust that Tony is in a better place, and that God will give you all the "peace that passes all understanding."

Tony was a great inspiration to many. I will say that when I was growing up , he was the really cool guy to look up to. The rock and roll , custom van dude who was loving life to the fullest. How wonderful if was to visit with Tony and his family last week. Tony is known for his keen sense of humor but I would like to add that he has a great sense for diplomacy. When confronted last week on why I never got to wear his football, (the Friday before a big game, a high school girl would wear a glittered cut-out football with that player's number on it)Tony's response after a few moments of contemplation, "I don't really remember what the criteria was". Good answer Tony!!!

I am deeply sadened at the loss of Tony..I was in the band with him that traveled around the country in the late 70's and early 80's. To his friends - Tony's passing creates a very big loss and a huge hole in your lives and hearts, and I'm truly sorry for that as well.
About two years ago now, I was a volunteer from the Chicago area, at Camp Victor. Tony was the construction supervisor for our team. I cannot forget his kind manner, and huge sense of humor - a true pleasure to be around. Even though I only worked with Tony for a very short while, I could see that his true spirit was extremely strong. I will not forget him - he made a huge impact on me in a very short period of time.
I pray that the Lord will hold you all in His loving arms during this very hard time.

Tony will be missed terribly. I had the pleasure of seeing Tony again ( last time was OS High School), this past July in the Katrina cleanup that Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Phoenix, Arizona came to help with and stayed at Camp Victor. I have a photo of him, myself, a fellow Ocean Springs athlete and friend helping at one of the houses the day before we left back to Arizona. Tony was so helpful and friendly. He gave me a video that he took while Katrina was happening and I got to see you all (his family). How brave to stay and capture that. I know that was part of his job to stay and care for others. What a great guy. Thanks for the memories, Tony! I will never forget your kind and giving spirit.

I am so glad I returned to Ocean Springs last year to celebrate my 35th high school reunion with Tony, our photographer, and other classmates. I will always remember Tony's smile. I am also glad that I was able to return to Ocean Springs again this year and be able to say good bye to Tony before he left us on his next journey with our Lord. "Take my yoke and put it on you, and learn from me, because I am gentle and humble in spirit, and you will find rest. For the yoke I will give you is easy, and the load I will put on you is light" (Matthew 11:27-30). I am glad your load has been lightened and I pray for your wife Tammy, your beautiful daughter's, Laci and Lindsey and the rest of your extended family as we celebrate your life and grieve our loss of a wonderful man. To Tony's family,
You knew Tony as a husband, father, son, brother, etc. I knew Tony as a co-worker and friend. He was a very, very fine man. Whenever we talked, it was usually about our kids; what type of school activities they had coming up, how our high school bands matched up, etc. He was such a family-oriented person; he loved his family. They meant the world to him and he spoke of them often. We have lost a wonderful person and I pray that Tony is at peace, sitting there in heaven strumming his guitar with his ever-present smile on his face. Goodbye Tony. Thank you for your friendship. I hope we get to meet again someday.
My sincere condolences to the entire Gagliano family. May the wonderful memories you have of Tony be a comfort to you during this difficult time.

To the Gagliano Family,
On behalf of the BHS Class of 1980 Reunion committee, I would like to express our sincere sympathy to you for your loss of a wonderful and talented man. We had the pleasure of having Tony photograph and compose our 25th class reunion photos and DVD as well as providing all of our music. He made it a point to get to know those of us on the committee so that he could grasp the feel of what we wanted and needed him to do for us. Thank you for sharing him with us and please take comfort in knowing that Tony is definitely with our Lord and Savior. He will be missed at our upcoming 30th reunion. Rest in peace our special friend.

You will be missed by many! May your family find comfort in knowing that you are now cancer free and no longer suffering. I know you are building great things and making many in heaven smile with your witt and your musical talent. My prayers are with all of you whom I met only through the Katrina video. I worked with Tony on four of my trips to Camp Victor. I learned a few construction tips from him, but mostly how to be patient and satisfied. A bigger heart and sense of humor had no one else. The miles are too far from Michigan or I would be there, but know that you are - and have been - in my daily prayers. God will comfort you in this time, and always.
