Carl Capuano
August 9, 2010

I would like to begin today by saying, on behalf of our Gill Family, how sorry we are, Sonny and Reatha, for the loss of your father.
To our sister, Bernice, your brothers and sisters want to express that our hearts are with you and we share in the loss of your husband and soul mate that God blessed you with.
While each of you were accepting life as it was following the losses of your first companions and enjoying your children and grandchildren…you were brought together. Bernice Gill Stevison met Carl Capuano Sr. at a social at Sonny's home in Crosby, Texas in 1998. Subsequently, Carl was invited to attend our Gill Family Reunion by a co-worker, his best friend and a Gill Family member, Mr. Clint Belcher. It was there in October 1999, at our RiverHouse on the banks of the Trinity River in Liberty, Texas, Carl and Bernice became more acquainted with each other and through Nature's Universal blessings you two were brought together, and in January of 2000 you were married and once again shared the words, “Till death do us part.
Sonny and Reatha, I would like to say to both of you what, and who, your father was to us, the Gill Family.
First and foremost, he was our FRIEND! Yes, friend, as well as our brother-in-law. To Bernice's, four children, step-father and there children, step-grand-father.
And what did Carl Capuano mean to my family? He was one of the nicest persons anyone could hope for and could have in our existence. To us he was a living treasure and a valuable gift in our lives. There are other words to describe a friend like Cap, such as sanctuary, or smile. God knows how he loved to laugh! Sometimes he would come up with something so funny that would make you laugh so hard that you would need a facial masque the next morning to try and get rid of the stretch marks! As an example, after Hurricane Ike, we all gathered at the River House, because electricity was restored there quicker than at our individual homes. He and I went to Wally World (Wal-Mart) and upon entering the store there were two ladies (probably in their early thirties) standing at the front door smoking cigarettes. He walked up to them and said,
“Ladies, does your mother know what you are doing out here in the hot sun? You both should be ashamed of yourselves…what would she say?
Cap was also one to say,
“Grieve not, nor speak of me with tears, but laugh and talk to me as if I were beside you now.
He and I would sit out under the canopy of his and Bernice's home at the RiverHouse and talk when others were out fishing. He and I discussed the saying, “IN LIFE, WHAT SOMETIMES APPEARS TO BE THE END IS REALLY A NEW BEGINNING, and we both agreed. “WELL!
On another quote by Abraham Lincoln,
“It's not the years in one's life but the LIFE in one's years.
We just looked at one another and did not have to say a word.
A poem by George Sands that he and I talked about was as follows:
“The tide recedes, but it leaves bright seashells in the sands.
The sun goes down, but gentle warmth still lingers on the land.
The music stops, and yet it echoes on in sweet refrains.
For everything that passes, something beautiful remains.
Again…we would just look at each other and think.

I know that I can say for all my Gill Family when I speak, that we are truly thankful that the Universe allowed us the short amount of time to know Cap than to never have known him at all.
He was a friend to us that we held dear no matter where we were or how far apart we may have been. Cap was always there and will always – ALWAYS – be a feeling of forever in our hearts!
One thought that I feel he would want me to leave you with is a quote by Albert Pine:
“What we do for ourselves dies with us. What we do for others is immortal.

Gee! I was so sad to get this information. I send you sweet cousins blessings of peace. I recall fondly a picinic family reunion conversing with cousin Carl; spent alot of that time on the ground as he had me falling out of my chair laughing! The picture you posted is great: not only does it show his handsomeness, but also his jolly, good spirit!! Love, Dallas cousin, SissyLou.
