David Wayne Ashby, 64, died peacefully in his home September 16, 2018 in Gulfport MS.
Born in Tampa, Florida, he settled in Gulfport, Mississippi with his family in 1968. David worked in film and sound across the coast and even studied in Los Angeles in a class with George Lucas. He worked in the news department and in creative services at WLOX for 16 years after which time he became a freelance videographer, photographer, and sound technician. In the early 90's, David ran a company with his mother and father assisting adults with GED prep, English as a second language, and educating disabled adults at Goodwill and the Cheshire Home in Gulfport. He spent some time as the business manager for the Mississippi Gulf Coast Coliseum loading shows in and out like Taylor Swift, Korn, and 3 Doors Down. Over the course of his life he met people like Bruce Willis, Beyonce, Kenny Loggins, Bonnie Raitt, and Morgan Freeman. He worked with professional wrestlers such as The Undertaker and shows like Walking with Dinosaurs. His film credits include Waiting and Now You See Me.
David was preceded in death by his father, Virgil Ashby, and his mother, Marilyn Ashby. Survivors include his children, Christina "Mimi" Nanney (Jim) and Chris Ashby (Rebecca); brother, Steve Ashby (Cheryl); sister, Becky Shumock (Brett); and grandchildren, Nicki, Katie, Maegan, Andie, Erin, Patrick, and Lilly, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A private burial will be held for the family. Friends are invited to a Celebration of Life on Saturday, September 22nd at 4:00 pm at the soccer fields on Popps Ferry in Biloxi. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to your favorite charity.
