Devon Roberts Obituary
March 16, 1994 - August 21, 2022
Long Beach, California - Devon James Roberts, of Ocean Springs, MS, residing in Long Beach, California, lost his fight with the disease of addiction on August 21, 2022.
Devon had a wonderful sense of humor, he was caring, generous, loved the outdoors and had an infectious smile. Devon never met a stranger and always found a way to help someone in need. When Devon loved, he loved hard; his family was everything to him. He loved his mom fiercely and they talked daily; always ending with "I love you".
Devon loved to build, so it was no surprise when he started to work in construction. He used his imagination and strong work ethic to complete every project he started. He was extremely creative, positive and resilient no matter what life threw his way. He loved to fish when he could, but his heart was at the beach. It was there, looking out at the waves, where he found the most peace.
Devon will be severely missed. He is survived by his mother, Sandra L. Nickens, her wife and his step mother, Skye L. Nickens; Aunt Starr (Michael) Franklin and their children, Paige and Kaleb of Smithville, VA; grandmother, Gail Nickens of Ocean Springs, MS; his step-father, Marc Paine, grandmother, Martha Paine, Uncle John Michael Paine and his children, Amber and Wesley of Silsbee, TX; Aunt Diana Gray and her daughter, Christa of Ocean Springs, MS; Aunt Mickey MaGalliard and her children, Trey and Kyndal of Bonaire, GA; Uncle, Matthew Roberts and his children, Nathaniel, Lily and Abby of Cabot, AK and numerous other Aunts, Uncles and cousins.
Devon is preceded in death by his father, Lawrence (Chris) Roberts of Silsbee, TX; his grandparents James and Monika Freeman and Marvin Nickens of Ocean Springs, MS, Lydia and Larry Roberts and Billy Paine of Silsbee, TX.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Devon's name to: Recovery Road Inc. 2370 East Orangethorpe Ave, Anaheim, California 92806. EIN# 35-2688671; recoveryroadoc.org.
A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.

My love for you will never change. You taught me so much about myself. You have given me the courage to find my true purpose in life. The smile you had was contagious. When you loved someone you loved them deeply. I miss the baby talks we would do to have fun, places we visited, the deep conversations about life. You have given me so much strength and inspiration to keep pushing forward. I miss you more than you will ever know.

Devon was like a lil brother to me. We met volunteering together. We used to joke around all the time, he had a smile that would light up the room. His laughter was contagious and his energy was pure. I love him and miss him dearly.

I was fortunate enough to have this beautiful man in my life for 6 months. We had an instant, easy friendship. He became my roomate on Father´s Day, our friendship developed into a little family, he referred to me as his "cali mom" I was honored! He will forever have a place in my heart , I am better for knowing and loving him!

I met Devon on July 24th. He joined us at Disneyland and it was his first time visiting that Park. I enjoyed getting to know him as we waited in line for the rides.
I only met him the 2 times recently. We had a really great time, both times and Devon was great company.
To all his family and friends I wanted to offer my deepest condolences.

Devon was so kind and thoughtful. I´m lucky to have spent these recent weeks with him and shared a lot of fun memories. The world was a nicer place with him. He is missed more than he could know. His mom raised a gentleman.

Devon and I became very close during a pivotal time period for emotional growth on the way to adulthood. We miss him, one time he and I talked for several days before he took a bus to Texas. He texted me and said "Your voice is in my head and it is beautiful. I said as are you and always will be bestfriends Devon and Devin. Pisces Culture!

I´m grateful to have spent the last 2 months with him. Dinners, Disneyland, watching movies. He was so easy going and fun to be around. I know that he was happy. He was such a sweet guy and a gentleman. He is missed more than he would know. My condolences to the family. He spoke so highly of his mom and step-mom.
