Mr. Edward Joseph Seldon, Jr. passed away on Sunday, May 11th, 2008 in Gulfport, Mississippi at the age of 77. He is loved and known by many as "Uncle Ed" and will be greatly missed. Edward Jr. was born in Biloxi, Mississippi on November 3rd, 1930 to the late Edward Joseph Seldon, Sr. and Arita Marcus Seldon.
Edward Jr. lived his life as a devoted Catholic. He was a member of Our Mother of Sorrows Parish in Biloxi, Mississippi. As a child, Edward served as an altar boy when mass was celebrated in Latin. He attended Our Mother of Sorrows School where he played trumpet in the OMS Band. Edward Jr. was a member of the Knights of Peter Claver for over forty-five years. After the passing of his sisters, Edward moved to Gulfport and later joined St. Theresa of Lisieux Parish in Gulfport.
He was an active member of the Frances Fredericks Community Center where he looked forward to going and being with his friends. He will be remembered for his love of singing and speaking French and Spanish. He loved his yearly trips to Detroit, Michigan, where he vacationed with family and friends.
Edward was employed at the Daily Herald for over thirty years until he retired. During that time he also was employed at the White House Hotel. He began a second employment career with Mary Mahoney's Old French House until he retired in the 1980s.
Edward was preceded in death by his father, Edward Joseph Seldon, Sr., and his mother, Arita Marcus Seldon; sisters Mary Hill, Annette Maddox and JoAnn Collins.
He is survived by his brother, Leo (Yvonne) Seldon of Gulfport, MS; a foster sister, JoAnn "Baby Jo" Bell of Culver City, CA; foster brothers, David Harold and Joseph (B.B.-Joyce) Harold of Detroit, Mich.; a foster Uncle, Joseph (Mary) Ducre of Gulfport, MS and a special cousin Barbara (Aunt Bobbie) Boudreaux of Biloxi, MS and host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Theresa of Lisieux Parish in Gulfport, Mississippi, today with visitation 8:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m. Rosary will be at 10:45 a.m. with Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m.
Interment will be in Biloxi Cemetery. House of Richmond in Biloxi, MS, is in charge of the arrangements.

I met Mr. Ed a number of years ago at the N. Gpt. center. He challenged one of my students to a game of checkers and retained the reigning title of "champion". He was a very nice and funny man and will certainly be missed.You have our deepest sympathy.
