To my cousins David, Edwin, Nicole and all the family, I will be thinking of you today as you celebrate the life of Aunt Hazel and in the coming months, you will be in my prayers as you grieve her loss. I am so sorry I cannot be there with you. For Aunt Hazel, the oldest of five siblings, growing up in rural Vancleave in the late 1930’s was not an easy life for young children, but our parents always spoke of the good things, the fun things, the sweet things and each of the five siblings grew up to live successful lives and build beautiful families of their own. My memories of growing up surrounded by cousins are some of my sweetest memories of my early childhood. Playing in the woods and wandering down to Bluff Creek from Uncle Linwood's, Easter egg hunt's, and weekend family gatherings because someone from out of town was visiting. I especially loved when Aunt Hazel & Uncle Hollis moved to Biloxi for a while. My brother, Stan & your brother Tommy would try to sneak off to a boat launch somewhere on the bay but I always caught up with them and then they were stuck with me. David and Edwin, you were both older and out on your own and of course, Nicole, you had not arrived yet. Aunt Hazel's door was always open to family and friends. She worked hard, was very sweet to all children and loved her Day Lillies. I am so happy that I was able to see her in the later years when she was still in her house in Ocean Springs/Vancleave with the wonderful gardens in the back. I am so grateful for the beautiful memories of family as a little girl growing up on the coast in Mississippi. Our parents remained close throughout their lives and were always there for one another. My comfort as we lose them is in imagining them together in Heaven, dancing among the stars; Aunt Hazel, my mother Margie, and Aunt Gail smiling down on us. They remain in our hearts always.
With love from your cousin, Kathy Easterwood Linton

Hazel was a very caring neighbor. She loved her daylilies. Loved to talk about them and share them. Missed our visits when she had to move to her daughter's home and then to a care facility. Wonderful memories.
