Mrs. Helen Marie McCarthy, our beautiful, sweet, strong willed, Irish, devoted mother, wife and friend, age 86, of Ocean Springs, MS passed away peacefully at her home on October 27, 2019.

She was born in Woburn, MA but was a lifelong resident of Ocean Springs. She loved her family and devoted her life to them. Helen loved to travel. She was the SPCA for her neighborhood and loved her dog, Frankie. She was always trying different hobbies such as making jewelry, crochet and painting. Helen loved the outdoors while the birds sang a little louder. She loved to play bridge with her good friends and her Friendship Club. She was always a class act and did it her way all the way to the end.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Jack McCarthy, daughters, Maureen Hanshaw and Karen McCarthy and sister-in-law, Sister Helen McCarthy.

Survivors include her sons, Jackie (Ximena) McCarthy, Kevin (Tammy) McCarthy and David (Michelle) Dale, daughters, Patricia McCarthy, Elizabeth Smith and Mary Ann Joiner, nephew, Michael (Matie) Gillespie, niece, Debbie (George) Grecco and many grand and great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be on Friday, November 1, from 8:30am-9:30am, with a 9:30am Memorial Service, all at the Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Biloxi National Cemetery.

The family would especially like to thank Southern Care Hospice (Amy, Jada, Liz, Valerie and Tonya) for their special care of our loved one.

In lieu of flowers the family prefers donations be made to the Jackson County Animal Shelter, 4400 Audubon Lane, Gautier, MS 39553.

Helen was an inspiration to everyone she met. She will be forever loved and missed by all who knew her.
