Major Evanish Obituary

Major Nicholas (Nick) Sargent Evanish

April 11, 1937 - October 20, 2023

Gulfport, Mississippi - Major Nicholas (Nick) Sargent Evanish, 86, of Gulfport, MS. took his final flight on Friday, October 20, 2023, at his home in Tulsa, OK, surrounded by his family.

Born in Harrisburg Pennsylvania, he moved to the Mississippi Gulf Coast when he began his career as a navigator and pilot in the USAF at Keesler AFB. He proudly served in Vietnam as a C-130 transport pilot. He never met a stranger and found joy in simple things. An avid storyteller and humorist, he always enjoyed a good practical joke and as a last laugh, leaves behind a lifetime of unfinished projects.

Preceding him in death were his wife of 56 years, Myrna Conn Evanish, and his parents, Rose and Joseph Evanish.

He is survived by his daughter, Shannon Evanish of Tulsa, and his son, Michael Evanish (Jay Sarkis) of Tulsa. His sister, Joan Evanish of NYC. Extended family: Mark Byrd of Lake Tahoe; Kristen and Jedidiah "Jed" Byrd of Detroit; and LeAnne, Jenna, Torri, and Ryan Byrd of Alpharetta.

Graveside Services with Military Honors will be held on Saturday, January 20, at 11 a.m. at Floral Hills Cemetery in Gulfport, MS. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to pulmonaryfibrosis.org.
