Long Beach, Mississippi - Reba "Karen" Livengood died Saturday February 18th at the age of 75 after complications with her heart and kidneys.
Karen grew up in Crittenden Kentucky where she met Mike, her Husband of 55 years when they were both in 5th grade. Together they lived a life full of love, laughter, grace, and goodness.
She was a former Internal Revenue Service worker who received numerous awards and promotions. She endured a near fatal car accident in 1984 which caused her severe injuries with life long lasting effects. It was said that every day she lived with us after that day was a gift from God. She and Mike moved to Mississippi in the 90s so that she could breathe in the warm salt air in their home they nicknamed "The Sandbar Hub." While in Long Beach she worked for the Edward Jones office of Jason Lindholm (whom she nicknamed "Her Mississippi Son") and filled in at many of the regional branches.
Karen dedicated her entire life to giving back to her community and towards making the lives of people she knew better off. Because of this she was named the Aline Doherty Long Beach Citizen of the Year by the Chamber of Commerce in 2013.
Karen was an active member of the Long Beach Rotary Club. She served as Club President on numerous occasions and was serving as the Treasurer of the Club at the time of her death. While in Rotary, she started the 3rd grade Dictionary project in which all 3rd graders at Long Beach Schools receive a Dictionary each year. She also helped start the Thanksgiving Food Drive in which 30-40 local families receive a full Thanksgiving box of food including a Turkey every year. In addition she organized and shopped for dozens of children's Christmas presents through Casa over the years.
Karen was preceded in death by her mother Norma Emminger Cummins, Father Kenny Cummins, and Brother KG Cummins. She is survived by Husband Mike, her dog Precious, her many nieces & nephews in Kentucky, all of her Long Beach friends, and wonderful neighbors on Markham Drive.
