Robert Delgado Obituary

Robert Delgado

December 8, 1941 - September 8, 2025

Gulfport, Mississippi - Robert "Bobby" Edward Delgado passed into eternal life on Monday, September 8, 2025. Born in New Orleans, LA on December 8, 1941 to Lucille Rutledge Delgado and Manuel O. Delgado, Bobby led a life of adventure by serving his country as a Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Navy. His passion for the sea started in his youth at the Southern Yacht Club, where he crewed with his brothers, Manuel Jr. and John Rutledge Delgado, to many victories on a Luders 16 sailboat. As a teenager, his first job was as a sailmaker. The Navy was Bobby's ticket to the world, and he took full advantage traveling to Asia, Africa, and the Mediterranean during his 20-year Naval career – from sea to shining sea.

Bobby graduated from St. Aloysius High School (now Brother Martin), the University of New Orleans, and capped it all off with a Master's Degree from the Naval Post Graduate School. But not before he received the ominous "GREETINGS" letter informing him he was selected to serve his country in the Vietnam War. He immediately joined the Navy, following in the footsteps of his eldest brother. He met and married the love of his life, Miwa Hosoi, while in the Naval Post Graduate School in Monterey, CA.

Bobby is survived by his wife Miwa (married 54 years), his brother John Rutledge Delgado (Susan), his sons Robert "Little Bobby" Delgado (Marliese) and Chris Delgado (Susan), his daughter Nana Davis (Clint), and his grandchildren Chyna, Alexander, Noah, Anna Grace, and Finn.

Bobby's greatest gift was to unite our family. In 1957 at the age of 16, Bobby's sense of adventure and desire to connect with his family led him to rebuild a 1956 Ford (6-cylinder, manual) and drive it across the country to California and Sonora, Mexico. Rebuilding relationships strained by time and distance, Bobby developed a great love for his grandfather, Rutillo Delgado, and his Aunt Emilia Delgado Harper. This love carries forward today through Bobby's children and grandchildren. Bobby loved seeing his family together, as all families should be. Dad always welcomed us back home, despite our shortcomings, and we hope to follow his wonderful example of bringing family together.

And now, we celebrate his life and pray that the Lord welcomes Bobby into His Glorious Kingdom.
