Robert Gillum Obituary

Robert L. Gillum, Jr

February 10, 1971 - January 10, 2020

Long Beach

Robert (Rob) L. Gillum, Jr was born to Robert and Jaqueline Gillum on February 10, 1971 in Annapolis, Maryland. He was the only child of this union. Captivated by his big smile, he met no strangers; to know him was to love him.

He attended and graduated Annapolis High School in Annapolis, MD where he excelled in academics as well as baseball, martial arts (receiving a black belt 5th degree), wresting (winning numerous trophies and medals to include State Championship in heavy weight division) and second place in his senior year.

After high school, he joined the police academy and went on to the police force for two years in Annapolis, MD. In 1995, after moving to Gulfport, Rob decided to follow in his father's footsteps and joined the United States Army Reserves. He received his basic trainig at Ft. Polk, LA where he became a gun enthusiast and loved to target shoot. He also received training at Ft. Sam Houston in San Antonio, TX as a medical specialist and received an LPN degree and Certified First Surgical Assistant for the operating room. He later trained at Walter Reed Army Hospital where he gained an advanced certification as a surgical tech. After his service in the United States Army, he attended Alabama A&M University in Huntsville where he studied to further his career goals in the medical field.

Rob started his own business as a traveling certified surgical tech and later became a private contracted first assist to various physicians and multiple hospitals along the Gulf Coast specializing in the field of Orthopedics.

His memories will forever be cherished by his loving parent, Robert Sr and Celeste Gillum of Gulfport, MS, Lawrence and Jaqueline A. Harris of Annapolis, MD; three brothers, Sean (Rebecca) Gillum, Gulfport, MS; Jeremy Harris of Annanpolis, MD, Walter Huley, Jr of Fort Polk, LA; one sister, Tidisha (Louis) Doss of San Diego, CA; several aunts, uncles and a host of relatives and friends, his OR work family and his faithful dog, Jazzy.
