Robert Weierman Obituary

Robert Joseph Weierman
July 31, 1942 - October 21, 2021
Gulfport, Mississippi - Dr. Robert J. "Bob" Weierman went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 21, following a brief illness and upon a long-distance delivery of last rites by his beloved Monsignor, Father Louis Lohan of Ireland.
Born on July 31, 1942, to Dorothy Broderick Weierman and Albert Fabian Weierman, Bob grew up in Spring Lake, New Jersey, and graduated from New York City's Xavier High School prior to attending college at St. Peter's University in Jersey City. A 1968 graduate of Georgetown Medical School, Bob became a Board-Certified physician in Orthopaedic Surgery in 1974 and enjoyed an accomplished career that spanned 44 years, eventually bringing him to the Mississippi Gulf Coast, where he practiced from 2000 to 2012. Among many professional highlights were his appointment as President of the Medical Staff at the Hospital Center in Orange, New Jersey, and later as Chair of the Department of Surgery at Memorial Hospital in Gulfport, not to mention his role as Team Physician for both the New York Golden Blades hockey team and the New Jersey Gems women's professional basketball team.
Bob became a member of the American Medical Association in 1974 and remained active throughout his entire career. Additionally, he was a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons as well as the Scoliosis Research Society. "Dr. Bob," as he was known by many, was a consummate professional who poured himself into his work and took great pride in performing life-changing procedures for the patients that he grew to love. Upon retiring in 2012, Bob served at the Bethel Free Clinic in Biloxi, where he was a member of the Board of Trustees.
When he wasn't attending patients, Bob could be found doting over his canine companions, Carlee and Erin, having said goodbye to his precious Shannon two years ago. Additionally, he relished traveling to Hawaii and especially Ireland, where he enjoyed exploring the history of his family roots, and though Bob would tell you that his blood ran green, his "Mississippi kids" would proudly suggest that they had turned it maroon, as evidenced by his enthusiastic support of all things Mississippi State.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Albert M. Weierman; and a special aunt, Rita E. Broderick. He is survived by his adoring wife of 21 years, Teresa Parnell Weierman, who converted her New Jersey beau into a true southerner. Together, they enjoyed a blended family of children; Christine Weierman, Bobby Weierman (Karen), Tommy Weierman (Laura), Gentry Long (Brandi), and Jason Long (Nikki); and grandchildren, Jack, Kyra, Dillon, Ryan Grace, and Harper. Bob also is survived by his sister, Gloria Furlong (Bill); his sister-in-law, Carolyn Weierman; and nephew Albert Weierman.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 26, 2021, at Riemann Family Funeral Home, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport, MS, from 5:00 to 7:00pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am, Wednesday, October 27, 2021, at St. Thomas Catholic Church, 720 Beach Blvd E, Long Beach, MS.
Memorials may be made to Shriners Children's Hospital, Tunnels to Towers, or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

I just learned of Dr Bob's passing and my heart is aching. This wonderful man and doctor gave me a whole new life when he performed Scoliosis Surgery on me in 1977. I was so crooked I couldn't look at myself in the mirror. He performed a miracle and has always and will continue to hold a special place in my heart. Rest in Peace, my precious Doctor.
