Russell Doucet Obituary

Russell J Doucet Sr.

November 26, 1944 - December 17, 2024

Lumberton, Mississippi - Russell J. Doucet Sr., aged 80, left this Earth to ride the open range with his western heroes on December 17, 2024, in Lumberton, MS. Born on November 26, 1944, in Biloxi, Russell was a man of remarkable presence and vigor, embodying a spirit that was truly larger than life.

A graduate of Biloxi High, Russell's adventurous spirit and robust personality led him to a diverse and impactful career. He retired as a Battalion Chief from the Biloxi Fire Department and also served the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources.

Russell's zest for life extended well beyond his professional endeavors. He was an avid lover of the outdoors and adventure sports. In his youth he raced cars, swam to Deer Island, enjoyed water skiing and managed a shrimp boat. His passion for sports also saw him playing semi-professional football. A skilled horseman, Russell spent much of his spare time riding and training horses, and he had a special love for old Western movies, which he watched and memorized.

Above all, Russell was a dedicated family man. He is survived by his wife, Janet Morgan Doucet and her sons; his son, Russell J Doucet Jr. (wife Kristie and daughter Kaitlyn); daughters Ricki Doucet Soileau (husband Sonny and daughter Julia) and Dianna Doucet Hayes (daughter Gabrielle (Gabbie)); and his former wife, Elizabeth Powell Doucet Ashmus. Russell's legacy is carried forward not only through his public deeds but also through the personal successes of his children, whom he raised with love and pride.

A memorial service and burial for Russell were held on December 21. His life's story was one of courage, love, and community. He will be remembered as a towering figure, both in stature and in spirit, whose legacy will endure in the hearts of all who knew him.
