Mary Seymour Obituary

Mary Alice (nee Privett) Seymour passed away peacefully, surrounded by family at her home, on December 31,2024.
Mary was truly a Seal Beach Local. Born October 15, 1933 in Garden Grove, California to Miles and Esther Privett, she moved to Seal Beach as a little girl. Her father was a night warden during WWll and told stories of everyone having to use blackout curtains during air raid drills. She embraced the pure clean waters of the beach, explored the hill when it was truly an adventure. She told stories of when big Carnivals would come to town. She rode trolleys and attended the grand opening of the Bay Theater. She attended Zoeter Elementary School and graduated from Huntington Beach High School. With her diving prowess off the pier and elegance in the water she attracted the attention of her future husband and love of her life Andy Seymour.
The two were married on June 20th, 1953 and were married for over 70 years. They initially settled in Seal Beach after his service in the USAF. Their first daughter Terri, was born in Texas, followed by Tim in Seal Beach. They resettled to Long Beach and welcomed Jim, Steve, Dave and Amy. Her family was her world. They had summer adventures every year and family reunions…..from Crestline to Bass Lake to Catalina, family gatherings were their bonding time. She loved hosting parties and activities for the Seal Beach Lifeguards, High School activities at Millikan with her husband and volunteering for her church, first at Maria Goretti and later St. Hedwig. For many years she worked at PacifiCare in Cypress. In retirement, she volunteered at the Precious Life Shelter and enjoyed many travel excursions and cruises with her husband.
Mary is survived by her loving husband, Andrew Seymour, children Terri Coward and husband Eddy Coward, Tim Seymour and wife Joyce, Steven Seymour, David Seymour and Amy Diego and husband Dante. She is also survived by her brother David Privett and sister in-law Jerri Privett. She had 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. One of her sons, James, predeceased her.
A memorial Service will be held at St. Hedwig's Catholic Church on Saturday, March 1st at 11am with a reception following at the Holiday Inn.
