Aaron Steinberg Obituary

Steinberg, Aaron, January 28, 1942 to October 29, 2009, has passed on after a tough and brave battle with lung cancer. He relinquished the fight on his own terms, at home, in his bed, surrounded by the love of his family. Aaron was born in Sosua, Dominican Republic, and came to the U.S. with his parents when he was five and was raised in the Bronx, where he learned to play his favorite game, three cushion billiards. He was a great player who loved the game and the friends he made playing it. He played in many international tournaments and was once ranked 15th in the U.S. In 1962, he enlisted in the Army and was stationed in Germany. He made many lifelong friends, traveled and returned home in 1966, where upon he married and started a family. He leaves behind his wife of 43 years, Sherry; his sister, Libby; son, David Steinberg; daughter, Lisa (John) Lawlor; and the lights of his life, his grandchildren, Robert Aaron, Lucy Rose and James Edward. We'll miss you too, Pop.

Aaron Steinberg will be missed.

His knowledge and skillful execution of the game of three cushion billiards were remarkable. He had a soft, artistic stroke that is displayed only by those who are truly proficient when at the table.

His willingness and generosity to gratuitously share some of that knowledge to a novice like me was, and always will be, much appreciated.

Aaron said little beyond our discussions of the game, but his keen intelligence on those occasions when he did share his thoughts was always evident and much appreciated.
