Alan Neuman Obituary

On Tuesday, December 22, 2020, Dr. Alan Neuman passed away at the age of 86.

Alan was born in Montreal on August 28, 1934. After completing his education at McGill University he left for Chicago, IL where he attended medical school. He married his longtime sweetheart Marilyn Yellin and had their first child, Joel just before graduating from Chicago Medical School in 1960.

He completed his speciality training in OB/GYN in Montreal where he had a very successful practice delivering hundreds of babies and taking care of countless women. His two daughters, Sharyn and Deborah, were born in Montreal and in 1978 the family moved to Hollywood, FL where he continued to practice.

In the early 90's he moved to Wilkes-Barre, PA to be close to his grandchildren, Sam, Eli and Ryen and continued to work. As the boys got older Alan and Marilyn returned to FL to be closer to Sharyn's children, Josh and Daniel. His final move was back to PA so he and Marilyn could spend more time with Deborah and Mark's kids, Michael, Julia and Jessica.

Above all, Alan loved his family. It was obvious in the joy expressed on his face and especially through the warmth of his embrace. All who experienced it know how it felt. It was genuine, warm and loving.

Alan loved to learn and he loved to laugh. He could discuss any subject with authority and enjoyed debating all manner of topics. He didn't care about being right, and derived pleasure in the exercise and challenge of exchanging ideas.

Attending his children's and grandchildren's milestones was always a priority. Throughout his life he travelled extensively with Marilyn as well as with his children and grandchildren.

Alan gave us boundless love and he received the same in return. In the end it was this love which gave him tranquility as he moved on. He will be missed by many.

He is survived by his wife Marilyn (nee Yellin), Warminster, PA. Loving father of Joel (Helen), daughters Sharyn (Rick) Orlan and Deborah (Mark) Chilnick, his grandchildren; Sam, Eli, Ryen, Josh, Daniel, Michael, Julia and Jessica and his sister Frances Siegel. He is preceded in death by his mother Erna (nee Gottlieb) and father Norman.

Charitable contributions in his memory can be made to the Abramson Cancer Center at the University of Pennsylvania.
