Anthony Titone Obituary

Titone, Anthony, Sr., 92, a resident of Margate passed away on August 12, 2005. He had been a Florida resident since 1990, moving here from Brooklyn, New York. He worked very hard his entire life. At a very young age he owned and operated a concession called "Bennie Sent Me" on the board walk on South Beach, in Staten Island, New York. During the war he worked as a welder, building amphibious tanks. After the war, he worked two full time jobs while raising his family. He was first and foremost, "a family man"; he dedicated his life to his wife and children. He worked for wages as a dressmaker in the day (he made dresses for Oleg Cassini); he came home for dinner and then rushed off to work on the Brooklyn waterfront at night as a longshoreman; his nickname on the waterfront was "Peaches" because of his ruddy complexion. As a dressmaker, he invented a method of making button holes on dresses that was quick and efficient. When he got married he helped make his wife's beautiful wedding gown. He was the sole provider, who while never complaining, supported his wife Rita and their six children. A product of the depression, he was always worried about the welfare of his family and the uncertainty of the future. He was also a man of many talents; a winemaker and a handyman who could fix almost anything. In retirement, he dedicated his life to the care of his wife Rita. A great storyteller, he could talk at length about the adventures of his youth. He is survived by his oldest son Anthony, Jr. (a lawyer and former City Attorney-Prosecutor for Lauderhill), his son Joseph (a lawyer and former Florida State Representative), his son Donald, a realtor, his daughter Rita and his son, John. He is also survived by thirteen (13) grandchildren and twelve (12) great-grandchildren. His oldest child Rosemary predeceased him in 1999 and his wife Rita predeceased him on January 14, 2005. He will be missed and long remembered. Visitation will be Sunday, 2-4 and 6-8 pm, with a service at 7:00 pm, at the funeral home. Joe,

Kathy and I are truly sorry to hear of your Dad’s passing. We knew him for almost 30 years and he was a great person. Unfortunately he was part the last of the great generation who knew about family values and what it meant to work hard. I can still remember him campaigning side by side with me in 1982 out in the hot sun never complaining, tough as nails. Our family will miss and remember both him and your mom as the wonderful people they were.

I will see you soon.

With our condolences to the family,

Ken & Kathy
