Barbara Bininger Hyatt

Barbara Ann Bininger Hyatt, 78, of Fort Lauderdale passed away in her home on June 29, 2013. Born Feb. 22, 1935 in Neptune, NJ, Barbara was the daughter of Dr. Clem and Carolyn Bininger. As a "Preacher's Kid" (as Barbara used to call herself), they moved around in her early years living in Princeton, Pittsburgh, Richmond, Cleveland, and Kansas City, MO. She graduated from University of Kansas with a degree in education. During her time at KU, she was active in the drama society and Gamma Phi Beta sorority. After college, she moved back to Kansas City where she met the love of her life, a handsome young military man named Jim Hyatt. They dated for a couple of years while he was stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska, then got married on April 12,1957 at a ceremony officiated by her father. Shortly after, they moved to Fort Lauderdale and Barbara started teaching at Pine Crest School's old campus. Throughout her life, Barbara was busy socially and as a volunteer, serving as President of Beaux Arts, The Charity Guild, Fort Lauderdale Junior Womens Club and as a board member of the Junior League. Later, Barbara earned her Master's Degree in Guidance and Counseling at FAU. Barbara is survived by her husband of 57 glorious years, James Richard Hyatt, her sister Carol Elaine Bininger Tillman (Lanie), her sons David and Steve Hyatt, and her grandchildren Ella, James, Kathryn, Steph and Christian. She was predeceased by her brother Robert Merrell Bininger. Services will be held at First Presbyterian Church, Fort Lauderdale on Tuesday, July 2nd at 1pm.
