Ben Raymond Obituary

Raymond Raymond, Ben ?Benny? Born Ben-Zion Gutreiman in Lodz. Served in Russian army during WWII, then went to LA, married Gloria Badener. They returned to NY and Ben Raymond Fabrics was born, a fixture on 611 Broadway. He loved Florida. In 1971 he opened his second store on Biscayne Blvd. Floridians snapped up fabrics, appliques, and knickknacks. Customers would take jokes with them along with the buttons. He moved to Young Crc, then Harrison Street. 2007 was his last of 60 yrs in business. Great raconteur, generous guy, he cut a sporty figure in silk shirts and gold jewelry. Loved to go out---never let anyone pick up a tab. Always helped people. He was 95, survived by two daughters, Fayth and Joanne, granddaughters Raychel, Dina and Monique and great granddaughter Anastasia.

To the memory he left to my children and me in the 70"s when I met him in Florida in his store. He used to give my youngest at that time, things to keep him busy while I was looking for fabrics and else. Never mention his past, didn't know he was active during WW2. Today I'll ask him a zillion questions! Kind and giving . Today, after more than 40 yrs. we where reminiscing with my 2 Sons about him!!!!!!!!!!!So they got into the Internet to find out about him! RIP Ben, you left wonderful memories and legacy to your Family !
