Beverly Mattox Obituary

Beverly Jean Mattox, 89, Plantation, passed away on January 5th from natural causes. Beverly was born on June 5th, 1934 to Edward and Agnes Siebert in Kansas City, Missouri. After Beverly graduated from Sunset Hill High School 1951, she went on to study at University of Kansas as a Gamma Phi Beta. After graduating with a degree in sociology, and a Masters in Education from Florida Atlantic University, she kickstarted a 27-year career in teaching and guidance counseling. She received national recognition for founding the first 'After School' program of its kind at Flamingo Elementary, Davie and also received 'Guidance Department of the Year'.

She was an avid bridge player throughout life, loved playing competitively, garnered multiple wins, and is still continuing her victory in the 'Card Angel Bridge Marathon' even after passing.

She served the community as President of the Plantation Newcomer's Club, an active member in Children's Home Society and the Republican Party.

Beverly held championship titles in tennis at Lago Mar Country Club and loved playing golf for fun after completing her tennis career as a top-player in the US.

In 1998, Beverly retired and dedicated her time as a volunteer receiving 'Volunteer of the Year' with SHINE, providing Medicare assistance for the elderly. She also helped homeless teenagers and truly shined in service to others.

A football fan of the Kansas City Chiefs, she loved to entertain whether for game celebrations or holiday parties. She loved her children most in life. She is survived by Bill Mattox, 66, Julie Andersen, 65 and Jennifer Mattox, 56.

Back when Beverly and I work together at Flamingo Elementary, I went into labor while at work. I was having a difficult time getting ahold of my husband, so I just decided I was going to drive to the hospital myself. Beverly came running, and said, "You can´t go by yourself", and hopped in the car with me. She was in the room with me as my contractions increased. I told her she might end up helping deliver and she just laughed and said, "I´m ready". She was so relieved when my husband got there. She was my babysitter at Flamingo whenever I needed to come there for meetings while I was on maternity leave. Will miss her laugh.

Dear Bill, Jennifer and Julie ,
I knew your wonderful mom for many years. She was one of the most amazing, wonderful and caring women I´ve ever known. I´ve been trying to reach her and now understand why (my greatest fear) I can´t.
I´m so sorry for your loss and for the loss to all of us who loved her so deeply.
My heart is broken.
Prayers for your family.
