Brian Pearl Obituary

On October 11, 2022, Brian Stephen Pearl passed away in Weston, Florida. He was two months shy of celebrating his 75th birthday with his extended family and many friends.

Brian was born December 11, 1947 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Leonard H. Pearl and Faye H. Fox Pearl. He was the grandson of the late Kelly K. Pearl and Sarah Goodman Pearl and Max Fox and Ethel Rich Fox. Brian is survived by his sister: Cheryn Pearl Benenfeld.

Young Brian lived in Toronto, Canada before his family moved to Miami, Florida. In 1965, Brian graduated from Miami Norland Senior High School where he enjoyed extracurricular activities such as the Great Books Club and the National Forensic League. At the University of Miami (UM), he earned a Cum Laude bachelor's degree in Business Administration in 1969. He continued his education and graduated from UM's School of Law with a Juris Doctor degree in only two-and-a-half years. He twice received the prestigious Book Award representing the top student in his class in both insurance law and remedies. Go Hurricanes!

In 1973, Brian and the late Robert Thomas (Merrill) founded Thomas & Pearl, P.A., a Fort Lauderdale-based law firm committed to providing injury and accident victims in South Florida with the highest level of legal representation. Brian and his firm, which includes his son and partner: Jason B. Pearl, have a reputation for integrity, tenacity, and effectiveness. Brian helped over 25,000 people receive compensation for their injuries over the course of his decades-long career. Additionally, he was a member in good standing at the Florida Bar Association (50 years), American Arbitration Association, and Academy of Florida Trial Lawyers.

During that time, Brian served as President of a local charity for over twenty years, which supported the Wildlife Care Center, Susan G. Komen, Paralyzed and Injured Veterans of America, Christian Children's Fund, and Miami Lighthouse for the Blind to name just a few. Brian was also involved in local foster care programs and back-to-school supplies programs for underserved children as well as innumerable pet and animal rescues (charitably and personally).

In 1970, Brian married the late Lois Bernstein Pearl. Both are survived by their three children: Elissa Pearl Hulnick (Steven), Jennifer L. Pearl, and Jason B. Pearl; and three grandchildren: Ian O. Hulnick, Alexandra L. Hulnick, and Landon A. Buechler. Brian is recently proceeded in death by: Landon's father, Chris M. Buechler and Jason's long-time partner, Jessica L. Chandler.

In September 2006, Brian married Susan West Pearl. He resided with his wife in Wellington, Florida. He is survived by Susan and his two stepdaughters: Sarah E. Griffin and Dr. Isabel S. Griffin. Brian is missed by the family's two dogs (Charlie Brown and Annabelle) and three cats (Ernie, Esmeralda, and Domino). Brian is recently proceeded in death by the family's dog, Mac-A-Doodle.

A remembrance event for Brian, hosted by his son, Jason B. Pearl, will be held on Saturday, November 5, 2022 from 6 pm to 9 pm at No Man's Land (666 N Federal Highway, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33304). On Sunday, November 6, 2022, Brian's family will receive guests for his memorial service from 11 am to 2 pm at the Lauderdale Yacht Club (1725 SE 12th Street, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33316). Private interment to follow.

Many special memories of Brian and family from our many trips to Florida. We never missed seeing the family every time we came.
My deepest sympathies on losing a special caring person. He was always there for Buddy and Buddy for him.

One of my greatest memories was when Brian and the family would come to my parents condo in Sunny Isles for Chicago hot dogs and Brian´s favorite baked beans. We would then all go to the orange bowl game. We all had so much fun. Family was always first and foremost. Always spending time together whenever we were in Florida.
Brian will be missed.

Brian and I were best buddies at Norland Senior ..I have lots of memories ..from almost 60 years ago ..we had a Norland Football Guard as a good friend for protection ! I remember Brian as the number #1 on the Debate team at Norland ...extemporaneous speaking he was a natural at ...We had a lawn service together as teenagers ...after school we sometimes went to his father Lenny´s Bakery Butterkist in the Hollywood mall .. Brian showed me how to make marble cake ..and throw raw eggs in the back of the bakery !!
In college at UM , we used to make money playing pool in the student union .. Brian could play 9-ball like the pros, .he taught me some great shots ...in `66 we spent Spring break together in ft lauderdale as UM freshmen on the prowl ! It was `Where the Girls Are`
Later he went to UM LAW and I went to UM MED School both of us graduating in `73... our paths crossed occasionally.. when Lois was still alive ...
The memories were always part of our eternal friendship ... even as life separated us physically and geographically...
May his family know he was one of a kind !!
