Carroll Moody Obituary

Moody, Dr. Carroll Lee, MD., 69, devoted cardiologist, and mentor to patients, nurses and physicians passed away peacefully Sunday, December 26, 2010 at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky from complications of leukemia. He was the son of the late George Lee and Opal Moody. Dr. Moody received his MD degree from the University of Louisville, Kentucky in 1967 and completed his Medical internship and residency at the University of Alabama in 1969. He attended Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia and completed a Fellowship in Cardiology in 1974. Dr. Moody was Board Certified in both Internal Medicine and Cardiology. He was a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and a Fellow of the American College of Physicians. After completion of his cardiology fellowship, Dr. Moody joined the medical practice of Dr. Henry Cooper and together they founded the Greater Ft. Lauderdale Heart Group. He was a pioneer in the practice of cardiovascular medicine, opening one of the first diagnostic cardiac catheterization laboratories in Broward County at Broward General Medical Center in 1975. This was the beginning of an era in which he spearheaded the development of comprehensive cardiovascular medical services throughout the North Broward Hospital District (Broward Health). Dr. Moody was committed to teaching and service to the community. He provided medical expertise and services to Children's Medical Clinic and Vocational Rehabilitation and in recent years divided his time between his cardiology practice in Ft. Lauderdale and teaching at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Marshall University in West Virginia, Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, and the medical students from Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. He had a deep reverence for God, family and country. He was an active member at North Star Community Church in Ft. Lauderdale. He served as a Major in the United States Army. Dr. Moody enjoyed spending the summers on his beloved Poplar Hill Farm in Lexington, Kentucky. Dr. Moody will best be remembered as an "old fashioned" physician who always made the time for patients regardless of the hour or day. His colleagues, physicians and nurses, will remember his expertise, passion for caring for his patients, his vision and leadership. He is survived by his loving wife Barbara Paige; two sons, Bryan Christopher Moody Esq. and Brent Robert Moody MD.; daughter Karen Paige Lehman and six grandchildren. There will be a memorial service at North Star Community Church 116 NE 24th Street, Fort Lauderdale, FL www.NorthStarFTL.org on January 22, 2011 at 2 p.m.. God Speed, Dr. Moody and tell my mother hello. You were her doctor for years, right up to the end of her life, and you and I fought hard that last year for her. I loved your personality and I thought you were phenomenal as a doctor. I still remember your cheerful smiles when I'd enter the ICU each and every morning for that 12 month period, as well as your uplifting comments sprinkled throughout the day; I still can here you say, as I'd enter the ICU in the morning, "here she comes... walking with purpose". And, of course, we'd all laugh. You made such a painful situation a little less painful every day I was lucky enough to see you. God Bless !!!

The Bodmer Family thanks Dr. Moody for giving to all his patients unconditional love and expert guidance no matter what the problem was. He took control and made you feel like a million bucks,. He was an Angel sent from Heaven to care for his extended family, and that he did. How fortunate we are to have known such a wonderful human being. May he rest in peace. I am devastated to hear of Dr. Moody's death. I only saw him once, but he was incredibly kind and caring, not to mention knowledgeable. I found him to be the old-fashioned doctor who truly cared about each individual patient. You sure don't see that too often these days. We need many more doctors like him! My deepest condolences to his family.

I will truly miss a wounderful doctor but more importantly a good friend. If every doctor was more like Carroll we would all feel safer when we went to see our medical care. He was one of few physicians who didn’t practice medicine he was medician.

I had the great pleasure of working with Dr. Moody twice. Once in the 80's at Broward General in the EKG Dept and most recently in his Billing Dept at the Heart Group. His "Southern Charm" and true desire to help his patients was an inspiration. He will be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with his family at this difficult time.

Carroll was a great physician! I met him in 1974 at Grady Memorial Hospital (of Emory University) where he was a most impressive cardiology fellow of Dr. J .Willis Hurst's. We have crossed paths many times over the ensuing years. He was always a pleasure to refer patients to as they always extolled him with accolades .He will be missed .Gerard Grau MD.

I had the pleasure of working with Dr.Moody in the CCU at Broward General in the 1980's as a nurse. He was a great physician and he had a very funny sense of humour. He cared deeply about his patients and he set a high standard of care at the hospital. He was one of a kind. Thoughts and prayers are with Barbara and his family

I will miss him very much. He helped my mom so much after her MI in the early 90's and was always a friend of our family. Her 18 year survival was in no small part due to his excellent care. As a med student I had the privelege of working with him for a month. He had a very reassuring, personable, and caring nature to him towards his patients which today is hard to find among our medical profession. I am glad to have known him and to be able to see him again one day as all of heaven rejoiced and welcomed him home.

What can you say about one of the most caring and loving people that my husband and I have ever know. Carroll Moody saved my husband's life 2 times once in 1978,once in 2003. He was my cardiologist from 1984 until we moved to central Florida in 2005. He was the finest doctor and I was blessed to have known him since he came to Lauderdale and worked with Henry Cooper and Jim Berry. This void he leaves can not be filled. We will so miss making an appointment to see Carroll when we got back to Lauderdale and going by Publix and picking up a Turkey sandwich and bring "lunch" and setting in his office eating our sandwiches and talking about any and everything.God was so good to have placed Carroll Moody in our lives.

Our hearts go out to Barbara and her family.

We will miss you Carroll Moody

We will miss Carroll Moody. A superb dedicated physician, with great wisdom and intellect, who so easily won the hearts and confidence of his patients, with a mixture of old world Kentucky charm, a wonderful caring nature, genuine personal kindness and an enchanting sense of humor. May he rest in peace.

January 16, 2011

I have so much gratitude and love for Dr. Carroll Moody. I am extremely sad by the news of his death. I met Dr. Moody in 1986 when he so lovingly and competently cared for my father. I was so frightened to be faced with the fact that I may be loosing my Dad. Besides giving my Dad excellent care, Dr. Moody gave me and Dad the support, compassion and sense of humor that we so desperately needed. Since then, he cared for my mother and husband and I learned that this was a doctor like none other. He gave his all to his patients and the family. I really don't know how my family could have done without him. I truly loved him and I love Barbara. I will miss him. My prayers will be with Barbara and the family.

Fondly,
Marian (Antonucci) Booth

My heart goes out to Barbara, Brent, Bryan, and Karen as I know it will be hard for them. Just know he will be in God's hands now and with all his loved ones that have passed on before him. Dr. Moody was my cardiologist for the past 6 years. He was kind, caring and truly took the time to go over all the details with his patients. He will be missed greatly.

Michael Hull

January 14, 2011

My father, Floyd Hull, was a patient of Dr. Moody's and I almost always accompanied my father for his routine cardiologist appointments primarily to hear first-hand how my father was doing and to make sure my father would come clean and wouldn't "candy-coat" his responses to Dr. Moody about diet and execercise..... but I also looked forward to our short visits in his private office after the examination. I feel like I got to know Dr. Moody as he was so genuine, down-to-earth and gave you such confidence that he was truly concerned about the welfare of each and every one of his patients. He always took time and you never felt rushed, and he gave you his undivided attention. You could feel his passion for others, as well as his personal passion for being on his horse farm back in Kentucky. I am certainly saddened by him passing away and am sure going to miss seeing and visiting with him periodically. He was a good man and touched so many lives. I am hopeful that wonderful memories his family and friends certainly have will keep him forever near. Michael Hull

Dr. Moody was one of a kind, a gentle caring spirit in a world of "quick hits" office visits. His charm, concern and love for mankind was evident in his treatment of his patients. I will never forget him, his smile, his concern and his gentle spirit. May God bless his family and help them through this sad time. He will be missed by many!

Dr. Moody was my Cardiologist for 8 years. Over the years he gave me a great deal of comfort since I was always un-necessarily worrying about my health. He always took the time to explain things to me and reassure me. I will miss him. I wish his wife and family comfort.

My memories of Dr. Moody date back to the days when CCU was in the West Wing at BGMC and the "new" Cath Lab was just built on 8ST! Dr. Moody spent a lot of time educating the nurses in coronary anatomy and hemodynamics. I will never forget his "southern charm" and commonsense approach to medicine and life! He will be greatly missed!

No one could have asked for a more caring or compassionate doctor. You always knew you were going to get the best possible care under his watch. You could not know him and not like him.
