Don Houchens or as he was known by many as “Coach” was a truly a great person. He was always there if you needed anything. I was glad I got to talk with him just a few days before he passed. He will truly be missed by all who knew him. RIP my friend.

So many great memories with "Coach" when my kids were growing up, he would take them on Science trips to North Carolina, Flamingo, Panther Key -- and our friendship grew on from those days forward. He was my weekly football call to make my football pool picks. He was a die hard Dolfan but would root with me for my Bills when the Bills weren't playing the Dolphins. I remember when he and Connie got together back when our kids were going on the Science trips. It was a love that flourished into one of the greatest loves ever. He is with her now. God bless your soul Don. You are truly missed!!!!

I met Don in 1982. He was the PE teacher at Bayview. Don and I came from two different worlds. He was a Southern Boy and I was a Yankee. Don was the kindest and most thoughtful person you would ever meet. We had instant chemistry and respect for each other. He loved the students and the community and there wasn't anything he wouldn't do to help a child. He also helped the principal. He was always supportive and a team player. He will be missed by all who knew him. REST in Peace my friend.
