I am saddened by this news. When I was a freshman in college, Ed took me under his wing, showed me the ropes of registration..guided me through my freshman year. I enjoyed his company at all times. Funny, thoughtful, smart and loyal.

Ed was a member of Beta Theta Pi at DePauw University. He is remembered by his fraternity brothers as a genuine good guy, with a wonderful spirit. One of the most positive, and generous souls you will ever know. It is no surprise that he lived his life helping others. Just thinking about Ed makes you feel good - even though its been 39 years since college. He was the real deal.

Bryan, I hope time will help to lessen the pain of the the terrible, untimely loss of Ed, he was too young. I am so sad to see him go and so very sorry for your loss. Ed was as good a person as they come, he will be sorely missed by all that knew him

I learned just this evening from my mother in Effingham that Ed had passed away. I was shocked and saddened. Though I had not seen nor talked to Ed since our high school days, Ed had reconnected not long ago with Greg and Sue Stephens, mutual friends. I spent an evening last fall with Greg and Sue, and Ed's name came up in our conversations because Ed had recently visited them. We all shared some good times in high school. I told Greg and Sue the next time I made it to South Florida I'd try to give Ed a call.
Ed, his brother Herb, and I met when we were very young children when our mothers brought us all to the Sportsman Club Beach at Lake Sara in Effingham. My mom and their mom visited on the beach while we boys played in the water. It wasn't until high school that we met again.
My heartfelt condolences to Ed's husband, Bryan. The many years you spent together is a testament to the world that love can conquer all. Condolences too to Ed's brothers and father.
The kind and gentle Ed would have made a good friend had not time and distance intervened. Rest in peace Ed, and thank you for all the good you brought to the world.
