Edwin P. Kollinger

Dr. Edwin P. Kollinger, 60 Passed away in the early hours of April 2, 2016 from heart failure. Born April 22,1955 to Dr. Peter and Milla Kollinger of Effingham, IL. Edwin was married to Bryan Chalfant on August 26, 2014, his partner of 25 years. Edwin and Bryan made their home in Fort Lauderdale.Edwin was a graduate of the St. Anthony Grade and High Schools, DePauw University and eventually achieving his higher education training as a specialist in Emergency Medicine at the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine. He Practiced at Good Shepard Hospital in Barrington, IL. and at Resurrection Medical Center in Chicago. When time permitted, Edwin donated his time at The Free Health Clinic for Homeless Teenagers in Chicago. In his Florida years he was on staff at University Hospital in Tamarac, Fl. and was the Director and Chief Physician at U.S. HealthWorks in Fort Lauderdale, Fl. at the time of his Death. He was a Flight Surgeon for Critical Care Medicine based in Ft. Lauderdale, and was Chief Medical Officer on Norwegian Cruise Lines in his earlier years. Edwin had kindness and compassion for all others. He could make you feel important and at ease and bring out the best in you. He loved to travel and had been almost everywhere. He liked to read and relax by the pool or just play with the dogs. He most enjoyed his long walks with Bryan, whether it was along the ocean or just through the neighborhood. His family and friends will remember and treasure his smile and his great sense of humor as well as his inclusive and magnanimous personality. He was a gentleman and a gentle man. Edwin is survived by his father Dr. Peter Kollinger of Effingham IL. brother, Dr. Herbert Kollinger (Kathy) and his family of Alpharetta, GA. and his youngest brother, Erich Kollinger, residing in St. Louis, MO. Edwin was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Milla Kollinger (May 10, 2014). Not to be forgotten, he is survived by and will be sorely missed by his furry canine friends Mocha and Maxwell Smart and also preceded in death by Danny Boy and Dexter. "Remember... That a heart is not judged by how much you love...But by how much you are loved by others." A celebration of Edwin's life will be held at a later time.
