Eva Siegel Obituary

Siegel, Eva (Eve), 84, of Boynton Beach, FL, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2012. She was in her home with her daughter Donna Uberman and son-in-law, Eric Uberman by her side. Eve also had with her the love of her twin sister, Elizabeth Tushak Schwartz; her brother-in-law, Raymond Schwartz; sister-in-law, Sandi Flashenberg; her two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; her nephew and two nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Stephen M. Siegel, and son, Robert, who passed away in 2002 and 2003 respectively. As were they, Eve was laid to rest at Cedar Park Cemetery in Paramus, New Jersey. She came to this country in 1939 at the age of eleven, with her sister, Elizabeth, and her brother, Herbert, when the Holocaust forced them to leave Austria. Her mother remained in Austria until 1941 when she finally succeeded in procuring their father's release from a Nazi concentration camp. Eve married Steve, the love of her life, in 1949. She took on parttime jobs as a photographer's assistant and, later, as a floral arranger. She went on to share the proprietorship of Arrangements Unlimited in Ridgewood, NJ until 1994 with her friend and business partner of 18 years, Nicki Siegelbaum. She and Nicki created the floral arrangements themselves, and during that time Eve painted numerous oils. Some were sold in the New York area and others are displayed proudly in her family members' homes. Throughout her life, Eve was very active in sports: first, skiing, and then competitive tennis and recreational water-skiing and, later, golf. She enjoyed flying and gliding with Steve, who piloted planes, for a number of years. She and Steve also worked as part-time art instructors for the Queen Elizabeth Cruise Line and traveled all over the world together on these ships and with family members and friends. In more recent years, she participated almost daily in competitive bridge games. What Eve was probably best known for, by her family and friends, was her wonderful smile. They will all miss it terribly, but will carry it with them forever. A scholarship has been set up in Eve's name at the non-profit pre-school that her granddaughter is Director of. Donations may be made to the Eve Siegel Memorial Fund, c/o Eve Uberman, Nia House, 2234 9th Street, Berkeley, CA 94703.

Such fond memories of Eve. Always knew her as Eva. Sounds like she had a rich full life and did many exciting things. Can still hear her voice in my ears.

Donna and family I was so sad to read about the passing of your mom, dad and Robert. I remember your mom well and can remember the sound of her voice. She was so kind and gentle. You have been on my mind for so many years after we lost touch. If you read this Donna please get in touch with me. My deepest sympathies. I will keep you in my prayers.
