Fred Lieberman Obituary

Lieberman, Fred, Boca Raton, Florida died on March 12, 2008. Born in Philadelphia in 1923 to Harry and Ida Lieberman, the youngest of eight children, he attended Overbrook High School and the RCA Institute in New York, where he studied radio and television engineering. He entered the armed forces in 1943 and served as a Master Sergeant in the Western Defense Command in California. After his discharge he worked as a field engineer for Jerrold Electronics and eventually started his own cable television company, Telesystems Service Corporation, with business partner, Jack Crosby. They built and operated cable television systems throughout the eastern half of the United States and founded a cable television company in Switzerland, Telekable Swiss. In subsequent years, he used his knowledge of the electronic and cable industry to develop projects including electronic security systems for home and business and a satellite transmission service for sports events. He also created Cable Guide, the first magazine for cable TV, which reached a circulation of 7 million per month within three years. A true mensch, he generously supported numerous charitable causes, always anonymously. In 1986 he founded the Harid Conservatory in Boca Raton, now a world-renowned training institute providing tuition-free scholarships through blind admissions for talented young dancers. He also created the Sunburst Foundation, which offers grants to minority students to pursue college educations in the physical sciences. He is survived by two daughters, Lisa and Judy Lieberman; and five grandchildren: Ben, Carey, and Hannah Lang and Aurora and Devon Kesseli. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Harid Conservatory. A Visitation will be held Sunday, March 16, 2008 from 9:30 to 10:30am. Funeral Services will follow at 10:30am at the funeral home. Burial to follow Boca Raton City Cemetery. KRAEER FUNERAL HOME 1353 North Federal Highway Boca Raton, Florida 33432 (561) 395-1800

Please accept our deepest sympathies. Your support for the arts has allowed our daughter the honor and opportunity to dance at Harid. We will be forever grateful for this experience made possible by your generosity and love for dance.
