George Huckle Obituary
Huckle, Dr. George T., age 77 of Boynton Beach, FL died on October 1, 2001 after a lingering illness. He was born April 6, 1924 to Thomas O. and Mae J. Huckle in Ypislanti, Michigan where his father was in the newspaper business. Two years later, the family moved to Cadillac, Michigan where his father became owner, publisher and editor of the Cadillac Evening News. George completed his early education in Cadillac prior to entering Albion College in Albion, Michigan in 1942. He enlisted in the Army in the spring of 1943 and served in the European Theater during WW II, until April 1946. He then returned to Albion to complete his pre-medical education. He entered the University of Michigan Medical School in 1949 and in 1950 he married Marilyn (Lynn) Granville of Saginaw, Michigan, also an Albion College graduate. After receiving his medical degree in 1953, he completed a year of internship in California and entered the University of Wisconsin Medical School in Madison for his four-year residency to obstetrics and gynecology. He and his wife moved, to Delray Beach, Florida in 1958 where he became the first OB-Gyn physician at Bethesda Memorial Hospital in Boynton Beach, Florida when it opened in February 1959. He retired from his practice in May of 1989. Besides his wife, Lynn, he is survived by his son, Reid (Brenda) Huckle; grandsons: Christopher and Michael of Ocean Springs, MS; his daughter, Kay Huckle of Delray Beach, FL; his sister, Ann Bignell of Howell, MI; cousins: Betty Rader of Rock Hill, SC and Dr. Thomas Weller of Needham, MA; nephews: Thomas Huckle and family of Cadillac, MI, James Huckle and family of Traverse City, MI, Michael Bignell and family of Brighton, MI and Ray Wolfe and family of Westport, CT; niece, Deborah Pulley and family of Lansing, MI; and brother and sister-in-law, Dr. T.R. and Jean Kennedy and family of East Lansing, MI. He was pre-deceased by his sister, Beatrice Sullivan; his brother, Earl T. Huckle; and niece, Carolyn Wolfe. R. Huckle was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Delray Beach, FL and sang in the choir there for 42 years. He was also a member of the Delray Beach Choral since its inception in 1982. He was a member of the Delray Beach Rotary Club for over 42 years and was also a Paul Harris Fellow. He was a member of the American Medical Association, The Florida Medical Association, The Palm Beach County Medical Society and the American College of OB-Gyn. A Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, October 6, 2001 at the First Presbyterian Church, 33 Gleason Street, Delray Beach, FL with Dr. Theodore Bush officiating. Entombment will take place at a later time and is private to the family. A visitation will be held on Friday, October 5, 2001 from 2 until 4 PM and from 6 until 8 PM at the SCOBEE-IRELAND-POTTER FUNERAL HOME, 300 Northeast Fifth Avenue, Delray Beach, FL.
