Dear Elsie & Susie: I was saddened to learn of Harry's passing. It came as a surprise, of course, because we had not heard he was in any ill health. He was a solid citizen, someone whom I've always associated with the word "toughness". My Mom used to regale us with stories about Harry defending George and Herman from bullies when they lived in Pittsburgh's Hill District. I still go past the apartment building in Wilkinsburg that he converted into condominiums back in the late 70's. God bless him, he lived a long life.
I've told my Dad about Harry's death, and he is going to break the news to my Mom sometime this week. She is doing rather well in a nursing home in Youngstown, following the stroke that she suffered a little over 2 years ago. My Dad feels the news will be quite upsetting to her, as it was when Herman and Ben died, so he's waiting for a copy of the obituary that I dropped in the mail to him today (he doesn't have e-mail, or even a computer for that matter. He is still working his home improvement business, even at the age of 80.
I do not have a current address for you, Elsie, or Susie either. We tried to send a High Holy Day card to you, Elsie, last year, but it was returned by the Post Office. I would enjoy hearing from either of you in the next week or two. My phone no. is (412) 441-3024, address: 5407 Coral St., 2nd Floor, Pgh., PA 15206. We live in a duplex my wife, Laura, bought 10 years ago, right before we were married. We have two kids, Riza, age 5, and Reuben, age 1 1/2. I got a rather late start with a family, one could say.
I wanted to convey my sympathies, and hope that both of you are managing well under the circumstances. Take care.
