Harry Nordinger Obituary
Nordinger, Harry Jacob, 89, of Hollywood, FL, passed away peacefully on March 26, 2011 surrounded by the love of his family. He was born in Manhattan, NYC, on April 19, 1921, son of the late George Nordinger and Mae Goldbronn; and predeceased by brother, George. He was an excellent athlete, playing college basketball and professional baseball in the minor league. He was a blue jacket sailor in the US Coast Guard during WWII and after stateside duty served in the Pacific Theater as a Machinist Mate on an army troop ship. He was honorably discharged in 1946 as a First Class Petty Officer. He married his beloved wife, Catherine Elizabeth, of Rockville Centre, NY, on November 25, 1948, and relocated his family from New York to Hollywood, FL in 1952. He started his professional career in FL as a land surveyor for Berry & Associates, but changed career paths to manage William Thies & Sons Distributorship, where he retired at 65. He was well known in business for his leadership skills, honesty, integrity, work ethic, and sense of humor. He was loved and respected by all who had the pleasure of working with him. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his eight children, Karl, Lucille, Joan, George and Magdelena and family, Janie and Walter Lytle and family, Harry and Karen and family, Robert, John and Robin. He was a beloved son-in-law to Lucille and Charles Gerndt, and devoted brother-in-law to Lucille Elizabeth Gerndt. Our father was an amazing man with a zest for life and a philosophy based on enjoying each moment of each day. He loved his bowling team and his toolbox. You could hear the happy tunes he whistled minutes before he entered a room, and see his amazing smile as soon as he entered. He believed in sharing your happiness, and spent his life sharing each day with his children. Daddy was an honorable man, who brought happiness and devotion to each and every day in the lives of his family. He believed and taught his children that the importance of life was "to matter...to make a difference". He was our father, he mattered...he made a difference, and he will be missed dearly with each day that passes. A private mass was held at St. Francis and Clare Catholic Church. Daddy will be buried in Evergreen Cemetery in Brooklyn, NY in the Nordinger family plot; at which time a private memorial service will be held. Our family requests that in lieu of your loving flowers of remembrance, that you please make a donation to the Duvall Home 3395 Grand Ave, Glenwood, FL 32722. Arrangements by Landmark Funeral Home, 4200 Hollywood Blvd., Hollywood, FL 33021, 954-989-8220.
