Henry Langsenkamp Obituary

Henry Joseph Langsenkamp III passed away on July 17, 2022. He was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on September 8, 1930 to Jane Alborn and Henry J Langsenkamp Jr. His family moved to Fort Lauderdale where Henry attended high school then on to Fordham University and University of Miami. He served with great pride in the United States Air Force from 1951-1953. Henry had left his heart in Indianapolis and returned to marry his childhood sweetheart JoAnn (Jody) in 1955 and bring her back to Fort Lauderdale.

A long career as a "Steel Man", Henry was employed by Jafra Steel, Virginia Steel Co. and Bethlehem Steel before branching out on his own opening Steel Fabricators Inc. in 1962. He owned and operated his successful venture for 32 years before selling and retiring.

Henry (Hank) was a "Car Guy". His passions were hot rods, antique cars and classics. From under the hood to out on the road- Henry was born to drive. He enjoyed attending rallies and shows all over the country and had a great camaraderie with his "RoadTourians" as they called themselves. The car guys gathered on Sunday mornings to swap stories and make plans.

Proud to be an Eagle Scout, he was also a past member of YPO (Young Presidents Organization), past director of Sun Bank, honoree of the Saint Anthony Foundation for Education and a Laureate of Junior Achievement. Henry reveled in his membership with the Weasels at the Lauderdale Yacht Club.

Preceded in death by his wife Jody of 60 years, son Stephen and sister Nancy, Henry is survived by his three children Kurt (Liz), Kate, and Jim (Fay), six beautiful granddaughters Kelly, Emily, Kari, Anne, Laura and Amy, and three great grandchildren. He is also survived by his beloved sister Joan "Judy" Gregory and many nieces and nephews.

A visitation is scheduled for Friday, July 22 at 9:30AM in Saint Anthony Catholic Church, Fort Lauderdale. The funeral mass will begin at 10:00 AM with a private family burial to follow.

I am one of the Sunday morning car guys crew who have been meeting for coffee and banter for over a decade. Hank's last attendance was two weeks ago.

I've been hanging with Hank for about fifteen years but my first experience with SteelFab was in 1973, shortly after I moved to South Florida to work for architect R. Wm. Clayton, Jr. I attended the summer BBQ event SteelFab hosted for the construction industry with my new employer. I had come from a small town in Pennsylvania and had never seen a box truck with beer taps sticking out of the side. I knew I was going to like Florida at that moment.

I am really going to miss my conversations with Hank and there is a new hole in my soul where he used to be. Godspeed, my friend.

We are so sadden to hear of Hank's passing. Had worked for SF for 45 yrs. since 1975 and was always a pleasure to see and talk with him at work and on occasions after he retired. When shaking his hand you had better have a good grip and shake hands like a man. He was always down to earth, made you smile and laugh, a very kind man. Hank loved his cars and am so happy that he got time to enjoy them when he retired. Our condolences go out to the family. Our love and thoughts are with you. May God bless you and comfort you during this time of grief.

We are so sorry to hear of Hank's passing. My mother Gloria, is 97 has fond memories of Hank, Jody, and the family as my father Rafael (Ray) Cabrera who passed in Oct. 2011, worked for him at Steel Fab for many years. Our family is very grateful to have had Hank in our lives and dad especially knew him as a wonderful boss and friend. May he rest in peace knowing he lived a good life, helped so many and gave so much love to his family and friends.

We have lost our special hero and model American. Hank´s kindness and work ethic should be the goal of all of us.

Usually on Wednesday night, I´d get a call from Hank asking me where we´re going this weekend cruising with our hot rods. I´d give him the same reply every time "where do you want to go? "And he say the same thing to me every time, "I don´t care but let´s drive. " So at 5:45am Saturday morning Hank, Tony, Lou, and myself would be meeting in the same old spot, Fire up the engines and head out whether it be Lake Placid, Englewood, Hobe Sound or Lake Okeechobee . We rolled up thousands of miles together with just as many smiles and high-fives.

We all love you Hank. Never to be forgotten.

Rest in peace my friend.
