John

Sorry to be so late in doing this but was just doing my brothers and remembered I hadn't got to you yet.

John was the nicest man I knew, he is a man that would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. He indeed was The Butterfly Man and I also treasure one of his hiking sticks.

He sent me a couple of the poems he wrote for Pat and I know she treasures them. They would have been married for 60 years come March, how great is that.

Love you both.

Ginny Detzner and her husband Bill hiked for many years with John on the Big O hike around Lake Okeechobee. John went to great lengths to provide a wonderful campfire on the last night of the hike. He also created and gave away hiking poles that were highly prized by hikers. I enjoyed hiking with John, as he had a great sense of humor. John will be greatly missed, as he was loved by all who knew him.

I greet John every time I walk into my home and see the walking sticks he carved. I celebrate having known this kindly gentlemen with quiet, but razor sharp humor. I hear the Heavens laughing; it must be John telling tales.

I had the pleasure of being in Boy Scouts with John as the assistant scoutmaster of Troop 201 Lantana, FL with his sons Kevin & Nick. Later, I worked at Pratt & Whitney where John was employed. John was giving with his time and passed on his love/respect for nature to many boys through the scouting program. My life as well as the lives of many others was certainly enriched through the efforts of John. So even though he is no longer with us in body, his legacy continues through the lives of the many he touched.
