John Trantalis Obituary

Trantalis, John W., passed away on February 21 in the company of his family after a prolonged illness. He was born on June 15, 1916 in Norwich, Connecticut, the son of Vasilios and Sultana, both of whom emigrated from Plomari, Lesbos, Greece. John was raised and lived most of his life in Norwich, and is survived by his beloved wife, Viola. He is also survived by his four children, William with his wife Elaine (Norwich), Jeffrey (Deerfield Beach), Dean and his partner Richard Smith (Ft. Lauderdale), and Marilyn, her husband James and their child, Jonathan (Coral Springs). John worked at Pervel Industries (now Bemis Corp.) in Plainfield from which he retired in 1982 after 36 years of service. The job offered him many opportunities for travel around the country, as well as having spent a good deal of time in New York City. John was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and an active member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church of Norwich. He received the highest civilian honor, the Laity Award, from the Boston Diocese in 1988 and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Order of AHEPA in 2007. Funeral services shall be held at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Norwich on Tues. Feb. 26, 2008.

I would like to send my condolences to Aunt Vi and her family for their great loss. I remember all the family picnics and my favorite memory of Uncle John was going Christmas caroling with my brother and sister and walking all the way over to Uncle John and Aunt Vi's house and having hot chocolate! It is one of my many favorite childhood memories! Its been many years, but you are all in my hearts!
Love always
Sue (Andriote) Gladue
